Parrocchia di Sant'Abbondio was built in 1724 next to the previous Romanesque one and represents an example of one of the most interesting 18th-century architectural styles of Lake of Como surrounding area, with a clear influence dating back to the European Rococo style. The internal decoration involves remarkable works of art and the outstanding entrance, that overlooks the churchyard, gives the opportunity to appreciate the wonderful landscape from the promontory of Bellagio to the gulf of Lenno, framed by San Primo and Grigna nearby mountains.
Exit from Cernobbio on Strada Provinciale 71 (SP 71) / Via Regina. When in Moltrasio, turn left on Strada Statale 340 (SS 340) and pass through Moltrasio, Carate Urio, Brienno, Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio and Lenno. When in Mezzegra, turn left on Via 24 Maggio, then left on Via Sant'Antonio and finally turn right to Via Giulia Brentano Mezzegra.
Villa Erba is an architectural jewel of the XVIIIth century and one of the finest villas on the shores of Lake Como. The great director Luchino Visconti spent many of his summers here and the rooms of the villa inspired the sets of some of his masterpieces, including the dancing halls seen in The Leopard (Il Gattopardo). More recently, the villa, with its ancient frescoes, the precious inlaid ceilings and Mannerist rooms, has been the setting of the movie Ocean’s Twelve.
Driving to Cernobbio is very easy and pleasant, either by fast highway or by scenic mountain roads. “Lago di Como” exit on the A9 motorway from Milan takes you easily to Cernobbio.
