What is the difference between an Irish and American wedding?
OPEN BARS
The biggest difference between US and Irish weddings is there are no open bars in Ireland. There is nothing in writing, but we're assuming that the country simply does not have enough alcohol to support an open bar full of Irish men. Do not worry, there will be complimentary drinks with dinner, as well as, during the cocktail hour.
A FULL DAY OF FUN
Most Irish weddings start in the afternoon and carry on until the early hours of the morning. (This is probably another contributing factor to the "no open bar" policy.) Our wedding will start at 1 pm with the mass at St. Mary's followed by an arrivals reception (cocktail hour/s) and a sit down dinner. The dinner will be a formal sit down event with house wine for all. The speeches will take place during dinner. After dinner there will be a live band until about midnight. Around midnight through 2 am, there is a DJ. For those who still want to celebrate, and we're giving you plenty of notice to prepare, the party will continue at the private hotel cellar bar (located in the hotel) which will stay open as long as there's business. IT IS A FULL DAY AND NIGHT EVENT! Get ready!
While weddings can range from casual to black tie, our wedding should be considered "formal" as in suits for the men and dresses for the ladies. Headpieces, hats, fascinators, and the odd feather are always welcome!
Of course, you're welcome to come as casual or as dressy as you want, this is just a suggestion!
While Ireland is famously known for the fields of green, that is largely due to the rainy weather! The summer is known for being the sunniest months, allegedly, so fingers crossed for a nice sunny day! The average temperature is mid 60s (Fahrenheit) but always be prepared for some rain. One of the best things about Ireland in the summer is that it stays light outside until about 11pm!
