Travel Dates

For our Saturday the 23rd Sep wedding, we recommend planning to arrive in Faro city the night before (Friday, 22nd Sep) and staying in Faro city until Sunday, 24th Sep.

Of course, if you are able to, we highly recommend planning to arrive earlier or even extending your trip as there are so many incredible places to discover out in beautiful Algarve.

Flying...

Airport

When booking flights please plan your flight into following airport:

Faro Airport (FAO)

*Distance from the wedding venue: 30.57 miles or 36 minutes

*This is the closest airport to the destination. Most cities in Europe offer direct flights so flight times and durations are likely to be much more convenient and affordable.

Airport Transfers

Faro airport taxis are generally considered to be the easiest and most convenient travel option; trips around the city never usually last more than 10 minutes with prices never exceeding £14-18 on a normal day.

The other option to Faro city centre is either the bus line 14 or 16. Bus trips last around 20 minutes and a regular one-way ticket costs £2.

We would recommend booking your transfer in advance.

Things to Do

Rest & relax the Praia de Faro  beach or one of the islands

If you’re looking for relaxing things to do in Faro, you shouldn’t miss Praia de Faro - the best beach in the Faro region and is easily accessible from the city, via the regular bus service that also serves the airport.

The glorious soft golden sands of the beach extend for 5km, along the entire sea facing side of the Ilha de Faro (Faro Island), while the rear of the island overlooks the lagoons and tidal mud flats of the Ria Formosa national park.

You can also visit Ilha do Farol, Culatra or Deserta. These natural islands with pristine beaches and crystal-clear water shelter the Ria Formosa Natural Park’s mudflats and are very popular among locals.

Take a Ria Formosa Tour:

Often overshadowed by the stunning Algarvian beaches, Parque Natural da Ria Formosa is one of the best places for outdoor activities in the Algarve.

This wetland of international importance is a maze of canals, freshwater lagoons, marshes, and barrier islands that stretches 60Km along the Algarve coast through the municipalities of Loulé, Faro, Olhão, Tavira, and Vila Real de Santo António.

You can do many things at Ria Formosa Natural Park, but we recommend bird watching, as it is one of the most important areas for aquatic birds in Portugal.

Sailing through the beautiful channels of Ria Formosa, you’ll learn about the hundreds of native birds and have the opportunity to see birds from Northern and Central Europe, and the ones migrating between Europe and Africa.

Golf:

There are a number of golf courses in Faro.

Check out the website below which will give you the full list of courses for you to choose from teetimes

Enjoy Faro's nightlife:

If you ask us what to do in Faro at night, our answer is to enjoy its lively nightlife. The city has some lovely restaurants, classy rooftops, spirited bars, and vibrant nightclubs.

Most of them are located in the Baixa (city centre), but you can also find some in the Old Town. When the sun goes down, the pedestrian-only street Conselheiro Bivar becomes the hottest nightspot in Faro and attracts locals and tourists alike.

You can find many eateries and bars with outside tables and a great atmosphere on this adorable street. Our top suggestions are

Lodo - experience fresh local seafood from Ria Formosa. We highly recommend to book a table in advance

Pizzeria Bell'Antonio - for authentic Italian Pizzeria right here in Faro!

Aperitivo bar - well located on a small square with a large outdoor terrace under orange trees - great cocktails we must say!

Algarve Boat Cruise:

Algarexperience is the best company to book an activity while in the Algarve. They have so many fun activities to choose from such as a beach bbq, cave tour, dolphin watching, sunset bbq, boat party, parasailing, and catamaran tours
