Destination: West Caribbean
Our cruise is a four night voyage aboard Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas - one of the largest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. We depart from Galveston, Texas on January 6, arrive in Cozumel, Mexico on January 8, and return to Gavelston on January 10.
Please book as soon as you know you are going to attend. The deposit is $100/person and full payment is not due until October 2022. Cabins fill up fast and the longer you wait the fewer cabin choices you will have.
Before you book take a moment to create an account through Royal Caribbean. This will let you easily manage your cruise later on.

If you're flying in same day (not recommended):
Contact Royal Caribbean for information about their Air2Sea program. This will allow you to book your flights and shuttle service. If you've already booked your flights you can still contact Royal Caribbean to purchase shuttle service to and from the airport.
If you're flying in early:
The ride from the airport to the hotels is about an hour. Uber, Lyft, and taxis are always an option. Below is the contact information of three shuttle services who you can use to arrange transportation:
Island Breeze Shuttle: www.islandbreezeshuttle.com
Galveston Shuttle & Limo : http://galveston-shuttle.com
Galveston Limousine: https://galvestonlimo.com/airport-shuttle/
For getting from the hotel to the port all hotels recommend using Uber or Lyft.
For getting back to the airport we recommend booking shuttle service direct through Royal Caribbean. Call their Reservation team at 1-800-327-6700 to book. Additional information can be found here (scroll to "Ground Transportation").
We highly recommend flying in the day before and booking an overnight hotel. Two hotel options are provided below.

Do I need a passport?
You do not need a passport at the time of booking but you do need a passport! Everyone boarding the cruise must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the end of the cruise (7/11/23). You will not be allowed to board the ship without a passport.
Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine?
Yes. Anyone attending age 12 and older must provide proof of vaccination. Royal Caribbean's policy can be found here.
What section of the ship should I book my room in?
The mid section of the ship is considered the least rocky part of the ship. If you're concerned about sea sickness it's worth booking in the mid section but be aware there is a small up-charge.
What deck should I book my room on?
If you don't like heights or are concerned about sea sickness try for a lower deck. If neither of those apply to you it's personal preference. Before you pick a deck, be sure to check out the deck plan for your floor, the floor above you, and the floor below you:
[ Allure of the Seas deck plan. ]
Why check the deck plan? To make sure you're not going to regret your deck choice. For example: the forward section of Deck 14 contains most of the activity rooms for kids. For families this might be a perk, while for other the increase in noise levels and foot traffic is a huge con. Looking up one deck to Deck 15, you'll see that this is the pool deck. It's a fair bet that Deck 14 is going to be a bit noisier overall because of this.
What dining time should I pick / what is My Time Dining?
If you want to eat before 6:00PM and can plan on making it to your dining room at the same time every day, select traditional dining and a time slot that works for you.
If you want more flexibility and don’t mind eating between 6:00PM-9:30PM, select My Time Dining. This will allow you to choose a different time each day between those hours for dinner. You’ll also need to book your dinner reservation in advance through the app if you don’t want to be standing around waiting.
Should I pre-pay gratuities?
This is entirely up to you, but I'd say yes you should. It is one less thing to be surprised by at the end of the cruise.
Will the ship leave without me?
This is something that we need to stress, so much so that we made it the first question in the FAQ: If you're late getting on the ship it will leave without you. This includes the initial departure from Texas as well as the stop in Mexico. Remember that all times are Central Time, one hour behind Michigan.
What timezone does the ship run on?
All ship times are based on the port they depart from. For our cruise that means all times will be based on Central Time, one hour behind Michigan's Eastern Time.
Do I have to get off the ship on port day?
Nope! Most people get off the ship on port days which make them the best time to explore, relax, and do some of the activities on the ship that are usually busy.
Who should I tip?
When you arrive at port it is not required, though it is expected, that you tip the person handling your checked bags.
During the cruise tipping is not expected.
The final full day of the cruise (January 9) you will receive gratuity envelopes in your cabin. These are separate from the gratuities which are automatically added onto your cruise bill and are optional. If there are staff who helped make your cruise memorable this is an opportunity to tip them. On our previous cruise this included our state room attendant and a bartender who learned all our names, favorite drinks, and always had them ready the moment she saw us walk up.
Should I purchase a dining package?
You do not need to pay for a dining package. The ship contains a variety of different complementary dining options ranging from grab-and-go to sit down dining. Information on this can be found below:
[ Allure of the Seas dining options. ]
The complementary food is good and you won’t be disappointed. If the speciality dining options are something you think you’d like to try then do purchase a dining package in advance and save yourself some money.
Should I purchase a drink package?
All guests receive water, coffee, tea, iced tea, milk, lemonade, and juice for free on the ship. Any other sort of beverage (e.g. pop, beer, cocktails) will be charged.
If that is enough for you then you do not need a drink package. Just keep in mind that drinks are expensive and it only takes a few pops a day to make one of the non-alcoholic drink packages worth the cost.
What type of drink package should I get?
Below is a link to all of Royal Caribbean’s drink packages followed by our advice on what kind of drink package you should get. No matter mater package you choose, the goal is to use it enough and drink enough to break even on the cost.
[ Royal Caribbean drink packages. ]
Classic Soda Package: Three-to-four fountain drinks (any CocaCola product) a day is all it takes to break even on purchasing this. Unless you only care about fountain drinks, the Refreshment Package is probably a better option.
Refreshment Package: Break-even point is still three-to-four beverages if you’re using it for the more expensive items (espresso-based drinks, mocktails, milkshakes). You’ll get a lot more for your money with this compared to the Classic Soda package.
Deluxe Beverage Package: Five-to-six alcoholic drinks a day will get you to the break event point for this package. If you think you’ll be at or near that amount you should purchase this drink package.
A note about the Deluxe Beverage Package: If one person in the cabin purchases it, you must purchase it everyone in the cabin who is over the age of 21. There is no way to opt out of this.
