Why a destination wedding?
Joe and Lauren's first date took place in Norfolk, VA in July 2016. One of the many things that has bound their love and appreciation for one another is their desire to explore and create new experiences. Since they began dating, they've visited Jamaica, Mexico, and Aruba (three times). Their love for travel has brought them many memories along our journey as one. Their love for travel culminated with their dream trip to the Maldives in December 2020 where Joe proposed to Lauren on a private island. After returning from the Maldives, they immediately jumped into wedding planning and began touring venues in Hampton Roads. They quickly realized that while the venues were stunning, none of them felt like "the one." They could not think of a better way to express their love for one another on their wedding day than by creating a completely new experience for them and their family and friends. They are honored, privileged, and blessed to share this moment with all of their friends, family and loved ones. A destination wedding will allow them to celebrate their love story in one of their favorite places

Both together and separately, Joe and Lauren have visited over close to 15 countries. Of all the countries that they've visited, Aruba remains at the top of the list! It's consistently 80 degrees, it rarely rains, is known worldwide for its amazing sunsets and beaches, but most importantly, the people on the island make everyone who visits feel like family. Aruba is truly "one happy island" and the perfect place to begin their union.

Joe's most memorable date was Lauren's 28th birthday celebration. He and Lauren spent the evening at Byrd and Baldwin's Steakhouse in Norfolk. Byrd and Baldwin's has a private wine cellar that they toured that includes rare and vintage wines from all over the world. Joe enjoyed this evening because they got to spend quality time together amongst their favorite things, steak and wine.
Lauren's most memorable date was Joe's surprise visit to a local Richmond winery. Lauren had been talking about visiting this winery for weeks but could never fit it into their schedule. Joe told Lauren they were just going for a drive and Lauren didn't realize where they were until they pulled into the parking lot of the winery she wanted to visit. They spent the evening laughing and talking outside and really just enjoying each other's company. Fun fact, this date occurred the day after Joe purchased Lauren's engagement ring (unbeknownst to Lauren of course).
A close second for Lauren is when they went to see Hamilton!

Joe and Lauren really enjoy traveling together. Lauren's surprise proposal trip to the Maldives is extremely memorable because it's where they agreed to start their lives together. A very, very close second - their yearly trips to Aruba because it feels like "home."

The best meal Joe and Lauren have ever eaten was in Aruba at El Gaucho's steakhouse. Joe had the El Gaucho Steak and Lauren had the Tenderloin Steak. They sincerely hope everyone gets a chance to visit El Gauchos, it's a tradition for them every time they visit Aruba!
