Things To Do!

We love the great north!

Please see above for our favorite breweries, restaurants, and distilleries.

Elk Rapids - Our "happy place" and where we like to spend a lot of time throughout the year. There are so many different things to do including shopping, beaches/parks, a few restaurants, hunting for petoskey stones but mostly just relaxation time!

Hiking - favorite hikes are Empire Bluffs, Pyramid Point, Alligator Hill, and Maple Bay.

Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding on one of the many lakes/rivers in the area. Favorites for kayaking are the Platte River, Crystal River, and the route for Paddle For Pints (just google the route - shhh! don't tell). Favorite spots for stand up paddle boarding are the Veterans Beach and the Dam Beach in Elk Rapids.

Beach Time - Our favorites include any of the beaches in Elk Rapids (Veterans Park and Dam Beach are popular) and just driving along the roads when you pass by lakes you are likely to find some hidden spots!

Chain of Lakes (our favorites include Elk Lake and Torch Lake) - Very popular for renting boats and exploring while relaxing on the crystal clear water.

Sleeping Bear Dunes - The park actually covers a very large area and there is much to see! If you never have before then I recommend the dune climb. Everyone has to do it at least once in their life.

Downtown Traverse City - Great shopping and restaurants to walk around to and explore.

Wineries on Old Mission Peninsula and Leelanau Peninsula-  There are two different peninsulas in the area that are great for growing and harvesting grapes! Make sure to check out at least a couple of them. Even if you don't love wine, the views are beautiful! Favorite wineries in the area - Brys Vineyard and Estate (where we got engaged!), Mawby, Chateau Chantal, Bowers Harbor Vineyard, Blackstar Farms, Shady Lane Cellars.

FAQs

The facts!

1. Are you allowing children at your wedding/reception?

Unfortunately we are unable to extend invites to children (other than our nieces and nephew) at this time due to the limited number of people that can attend our event.

2. Are the wedding and reception located at the same location?

Yes, the wedding is located on the lawn and is an outside ceremony (unless of course it rains then it moves inside on the same site). The cocktail hour is located underneath the pergola next to The Peninsula Room and the reception is located inside The Peninsula Room. Everything at the same spot!

3. What are some things that we can do while visiting Northern Michigan?

Please look at the information we posted under things to do where we have put a lot of information and links! Always feel free to ask for more suggestions!

4. Are you still having your wedding with everything going on with COVID 19?

We are monitoring the current situation and plan to make a decision within the next couple months. We already have a back up date in place for 2021 in case we have to postpone. Please continue to check our website for updates but we will also send out information if we postpone.

5. Are there ubers/lyfts/taxi's availble?

There are a limited amount of these type of services. Please check the section below for contact information for local taxi companies. Our venue does allow guests to leave their cars in the parking lot for anyone that prefers to take the shuttle back to downtown Traverse City at the end of the night. You will be able to pick up your car the next day without penalty.

6. What is the dress code for the wedding/reception?

Cocktail attire/semi-formal meaning dresses/pant suits for women and suit or sport coat for men. Please no jeans. Please keep in mind that the weather can be a bit unpredictable in Northern Michigan so please continue to check weather reports.

7. Are you having any type of welcome reception or get together beside the wedding day?

Yes. We are planning a welcome reception for any out of town guests that want to join us at Short's Pull Barn in Elk Rapids on Friday evening (9/10/21). There will be more information regarding the time etc. closer to the event.

Transportation

We will have a shuttle at a few different times leaving from our wedding venue and dropping off in downtown Traverse City so that guests are able to safely get back to where they are staying. Guests are able to leave their cars in the parking lot of the Peninsula Room overnight. Availability with Uber and Lyft can be limited but you should keep the contact info for a couple of local cab companies in case you need a ride from downtown Traverse City to where you are staying. Cab companies:

1. Traverse City Taxi Cab- 231-944-8325

2. Cool Cab- 231-944-6490

As previously mentioned - if you would like to leave your car in the parking lot overnight then you are able to do so and return to pick it up the next day without a penalty.
