Float the San Miguel River

It takes approximately 30 minutes to float down. Click here to see more information.

Day Hike

Friday, July 19 | Day Hike | 8:30 AM | Jud Wiebe Trail    “Hiking the Wiebe” is a rite of passage for Telluridians. Starting and finishing right in town, this short but sweet (steep, that is) loop is a veritable sampler platter of Telluride hiking.

The Jud Wiebe Trail is steep—gaining 1,100 feet in a little over a mile—but relatively short. It stays below 10,000 feet, lies on “the sunny side” of town and gets plenty of traffic year-round—hikers in the winter, and hikers and mountain bikers in the summer—so it’s doable long before other trails melt out.

Named for a Forest Service manager who planned the trail in the 1980s but unfortunately passed away from cancer before its completion. It’s one of the most accessible trails from downtown Telluride and offers great bang for your buck—steep climbs, wildflowers, wild mushrooms, lush fir and pine forest, quaking aspen groves, waterfalls and roaring creeks, frequent wildlife sightings, and open meadows with panoramic views.

Distance: 3.0 miles (loop)
Elevation: 8,919 - 10,011 ft.
Elevation Gain: 1,092 ft.
Difficulty: moderate
Time: 2 hours

Meeting Info

Meet at The Peaks lobby at 8:15 AM sharp OR at the Jud Wiebe Trailhead at 8:30 AM which is located at north end Aspen Street in Telluride Town. The free Gondola can be taken from Mountain Village down to Telluride Town.
