Golf Carts at The Reef:
If you're staying at the hotel, every event of the weekend is within walking distance.
The island, as a whole, is small, and very walkable. However, if you want a faster mode of transportation, the most fun way to get around is by renting a golf cart, which is roughly $55/day. If you're interested in renting a cart, call the front desk at 305.367.2611 and ask them to put you through to "golf cart rentals" or add a cart to your room reservations.
Another way to get around in a pinch is to call Ocean Reef's free transportation service, called Bell Stand. We recommend leaving a cash tip for the driver. The phone number for Bell Stand is 305.367.5985.
Other Rules Around Ocean Reef:
· Use of cell phones in any of the Club’s restaurants and Fitness Centers is not permitted.
· Cargo Shorts are not permitted at any dining establishments or golf course.
· Do not attempt to rent an Airbnb or VBRO; in order to experience the Club as it should be, you'll want access to the amenities which you won't get through unapproved rentals.
· Gentlemen are expected to remove their hats when entering a Club facility, excluding the Raw Bar and Fitness Centers.
Alex and Chandler's Must Do's:
Fishing! Fishing! Fishing! (Alex & Chandler)
Chowder at The Raw Bar (clam for Chandler, half clam/half conch for Alex)
Cucumber Smiley at the Pool Bar (Alex: ask for a made-from-scratch with Tequila instead of Rum)
Late Night at the Burgee Bar (Chandler: you'll want to ask for a freshly made Reef Cup, don't ask what's in it)
Shopping at the Golf Pro Shop (Alex & Chandler: just look at our photo gallery, we have way too much ORC apparel)
Sunrise Paddle Board Yoga (Alex): Just kidding do you even know her; but it looks fun and is offered along with other activities like kayak tours
Golf on the Dolphin Course (Chandler)
Walking/driving around looking at orchids (Alex)
Sail a Hobie Cat at the the Beach (Chandler)
Do You Need Reservations... Well, Yes and No:
Most of the restaurants around the Club encourage reservations, especially for dinner, lunch not so much. Reservations for guests can only be made 24 hours in advance by calling 305-367-5931. May is typically not as busy time of year, so we don't expect waits to be too long if you can't line up a reservation in advance.
Some of Our Favorites and Recommendations:
· The Islander: Our favorite restaurant on the Reef and very popular with the Members; dinner only. Great fish and sushi options. You'll need to make reservations a day in advance, or you can sit at the sushi bar which is first come first serve. We like the Yellowtail Ocean Reef style and the Melanie's Roll, but you without a doubt you must order the LOBSTER BISQUE.
· Gianni's: A fantastic Italian restaurant located above the Burgee Bar in the Fishing Village with panoramic views of the marina; dinner only. Another popular spot with members so you'll want to book several weeks out. The brick pizzas are amazing and so are the homemade pastas.
· Raw Bar: The most popular eatery at the Reef located in the Fishing Village. Open for lunch and dinner on a first come first come basis -- make sure you put your name on the white board inside. We love the clam and conch chowder as well as the stone crabs. Also most casual restaurant at the reef (tee-shirt and shorts).
· Palm Court: Another great lunch spot located at the entrance of Buccaneer Island and the pool. This is another first come first serve place that fills up quickly so get your name on the list. We recommend the Avocado and Crab salad as well as the Baja Fish Tacos.
· Reef Treats: For those with a late-night, or mid-day, sweet tooth head over to the Fishing Village and get some ice-cream or pastries. This is also a popular spot for breakfast and coffee in the morning while watching the fishing boats head out for the day.
