Here's a little Oregon inspiration - if there is something you want to see or do, let us know and we'll try to accommodate you!
You'll want to fly into Portland International Airport (PDX). I suggest taking a look at flights from Chicago to Portland as they are nonstop and usually cheaper.
Flights from Chicago are about 4.5 hours nonstop. When you arrive in Portland you will be on Pacific Time, so it will actually be 2 hours earlier. For example, a flight leaving at 8pm Central Time will arrive by 10:30pm Pacific Time. This is great on arrival, but you will want to be aware that on your way back home you will arrive 2 hours later. For example, a flight leaving at 8am Pacific Time will arrive in Chicago at 2:30pm Central Time.
Bethel Heights Manor is about 80 min away from PDX. Unless you plan on using a rideshare service, you'll need a car to get to the vicinity of Salem, OR. Many rental car agencies have locations at PDX.
We will be traveling to a number of places and through different types of terrain. The majority of driving will be on the highway but we may drive into the mountains on occasion. If you plan on driving, it could be nice to rent larger vehicles so that people who feel uncomfortable can carpool with you.
It is illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon. When you need to fill your tank, pull into any gas station and hand the attendant your card while letting them know which type of fuel and how much to fill. "Fill up unleaded/premium" works.
