Things to Do

Bom Jesus do Monte

Bom Jesus do Monte, 5 km east from the centre of Braga is still an important pilgrimage site and is the city's number one tourist destination. A plain neoclassical church stands on top of a wooded hill that is reached by the superb zig-zagging Baroque staircase, done in granite with a white façade, the Escadaria do Bom Jesus. There are superb views including the sunset from the terrace at the top.

Braga Tuk-Tuk City Tour

During this tuk-tuk tour, pass through the most important historical and architectural points of Braga's city centre to understand the importance and extensive history of the city. Within the maze of narrow streets, gothic churches back onto modern shopping streets and grand baroque buildings surround peaceful plazas.

Braga Cathedral Square

Braga Cathedral has been a national monument since 1910. The gothic-style building dates back to 1070 when construction first started. The Sé de Braga Cathedral is one of Portugal's most important religious buildings. Once you have finished exploring the treasures of the Cathedral, the Cathedral Square is full of fabulous bars and restaurants.

Praça da República (Republic Square)

As with other squares of the same name, Praça da República (Republic Square) continues the Portuguese tradition of being one of the most important public spaces in Braga. Located on the western side of the city's historic centre, it comes alive each day from mid-morning to late into the evening. During this time, it is filled with locals who come to enjoy a bite to eat in the cafes and restaurants that line the square.
