Vivek and Priya have known each other since they were kids. They met at mandir and saw each other occasionally at garba and other Indian events. It was during their freshman year at UAB that they became friends. First, they both were in the same chemistry lab. They were not lab partners, but Priya saved Vivek from bombing that lab grade. They continued to spend more time with each other. They started to plan their schedules to make sure they had multiple classes together. The two would have lunch together, study together, and would hang out together, more and more. After becoming best friends, they became even closer. Vivek decided to take the first steps on asking Priya on a date. It took more than a few tries. Finally, after his several attempts, Priya agreed and the rest is history (May 2011).
After nearly a decade together on February 8 2020, Vivek and Priya took a trip together to New York City. It was in Central Park that Vivek decided to finally take the next big step. At one of the vantage points overlooking a lake, Vivek nervously dropped to one knee. Priya already knew what was happening. Vivek’s first words were “It’s time, after 9 years together.” Without hesitating or giving Vivek a chance to say, “will you marry me?”, Priya said “YES!”
