I remember the first day she walked through the door in Moshupa. This was at my grandmothers, and I thought wow she is stunning, but I had never met her before and my mum introduced us as her kids. I remember that day we talked a little bit but not too much. However, the following day we had to go shopping for me as I needed spices before going back to the UK . Well, that’s what I told her but in fact, I just wanted to spend time with her and talk to her. I told her that the walk with only be 20 minutes but it was in fact an hour. And she complained the whole way there and back. But the conversations we had going and coming back really opened my eyes into the way both halves were living. And also just how incredible her mind was and still is to this day. From then on, we went on a few more walks and day by day I just began to fall for her . At one point during our phone conversations, we talked for nearly 8 hours. Small things like that mean so much to me. For months to come we continue to speak daily. And then she finally came to the UK to visit. And I already knew she would be my wife.
I went to spend the weekend in Moshupa visiting my mom’s friend who had come from the UK. Her sons were not there during my visit. However, it seems as though God had other plans. On my last day, my visit with her ran later than expected, so I decided to extend my stay for one more night. That evening her sons happened to be home. So when we arrived it was late at night and I wasn’t in the mood to have a conversation I was so tired. As we walked into the house there he was Victor Marantha-Makuku.
I introduced myself to him and his brother shortly after that I began talking to his brother about the UK. All of a sudden Victor invites himself into the conversation and took over. We spoke for hours about random things and the differences and similarities between life in the US vs. life in the UK. And a few days later he invited me to take a walk with him. Which took us longer-than-expected as he needed to buy a few things before going back to the UK. I agreed and as we discussed life I just knew I had made a good friend. And that is how I felt about him I was even more sure of that fact the day he left Botswana. I knew that I would never see or hear from him again. I was surprised to see a text from him that he had arrived. Again I never saw what God was doing, yet He was slowly growing our friendship into something more. Fast forward to my trip to the UK Victor got on his knees and asked me to stand by his side for a lifetime.
