Our story begins with a chance meeting at work. I was the new resident on the general medical team at the Children's Hospital at Westmead, when a confident, strapping (but short), coffee-addicted registrar appeared, introduced himself as James...
She's gorgeous, quirky and loves her food, I recalled thinking. Did I mention LOVES her food? The more time we spent hangin' out, the more I found myself transforming into a foodie as well.
Unsurprisingly, we both also loved to travel. Our first trip together as a couple was to visit her bestie Arianne in Cairns, 2017.
From Greece to Japan to far off Iceland; we hiked, we saw, we ate, we laughed and occasionally fought our way around the world. When I could pull him away from his computer games, the quality time spent together brought us closer. So close that he moved in..... from the downstairs apartment. Yes, he stalked me first by moving into the same apartment building, but just in the apartment a few levels down.
I relished the chance to finally make the trip to Winnipeg, Canada - Veronica's home town, to meet her family. Winnipeg was very homely and quaint, snowing in October, and very, very flat. However, I'll never forget being welcomed into her family home, and her Mother smiling and asking me to "look after Veronica". I said "OK".
While on holiday in Disneyland in 2019, James suddenly proposed , and I said "The ring is upside down, but YES!"
Together, we fought tooth and nail to lock in our wedding reception venue. All was looking peachy...and then 2020 happened.
Now in 2021, despite the challenges of the year past and family/friends who cannot cross the Pacific to be with us in person, it’s a new year, and it’s time to celebrate!
March 13th, 2021, between COVID19 lockdowns and monsoonal weather, we had a beautiful, sunny Autumn wedding with family and friends. We had such an amazing time, thank you everyone once more.
But alas, we could not forget our family and friends who could not make this day from overseas...We have committed to August 21st 2022 for our finale - A Rockies Reception in Banff, Alberta!
