After almost four years together, we have finally decided to tie the knot and come 1st December 2023, we will officially be Mr & Mrs Sinclair.
But you might be asking yourself, how did this all start, where did they get engaged and why Thailand?
The Love Story
This love story started in June 2019 and like many 21st century relationships, it started with a swipe. Karen started with those magical three words… “are you DTF” (jokes that never happened). They shared plenty of LOL’s, winky faces and the occasional aubergine emoji, but it took another five months before the couple met. Karen was living in Dubai and Robert was in Abu Dhabi, which for those of you outside of the UAE, that’s a 60-mile trip and neither of them drove at the time.
Finally, they went on a first date, which led to a second and a third. After a few years of dating, several lockdowns, and several trips to look at engagement rings, Robert knew he had found the one.
The next question was, would she say yes...?
In May 2022, the couple travelled to the Philippines to meet Karen’s family and explore the beautiful and pristine island of Boracay. While Karen and her cousin went off to buy chicken BBQ and balut, Robert plucked up the courage while waiting in the car to ask her mother for permission to marry Karen and Amor said yes, wholeheartedly.
Now everything was set, well nearly. A few days later and a story I’m sure the best man will share on the wedding day, Robert and Karen were off to Boracay. While staying at a tree house villa at the Shangri-La hotel, Robert secretly handed the engagement ring to the butler.
Later that evening the couple would have a romantic dinner overlooking the ocean. Before Karen fell asleep listening to another one of Robert’s stories, the chef approached the table to the backdrop of ‘I Swear’ by All-4-One, he lifted the cloche and sat there on the plate was a shiny diamond ring…
“OH MY GOD, WHAT IS THAT” Karen said… Robert got down on one knee and asked Karen to marry him.
So that’s our story. We have made lots of memories along the way and as they say in the UAE, “inshallah” we will make many more together in the future.
We have chosen Phuket, Thailand to be the location for our wedding. Our reason for choosing Thailand is because it has something for everyone.
We want all our guests to have fun, relax and make the wedding as memorable as possible… you only get to do it once!
So we both look forward to celebrating our special day with you… and of course showing you the local entertainment in Phuket.
