Our story began on September 10th, 2020, a day after Brittany's birthday. Washington, Mackey's stepfather, sent Brittany a DM on Facebook with a short list of characteristics describing a man (who would later be revealed as Mackey). You see, the late Washington Varnum was also Brittany's coworker of three years. The two of them had become work family, often talking about Marvel and DC comics and movies. Brittany inquired about Washington's list of descriptions and he mentioned how he wanted for her and his step-son to meet. Reluctant, but hopeful, Brittany agreed, and the ball was officially in Mackey's court.
Mackey wasn't totally sold at first. He hadn't met one attractive teacher, and he side-eyed the possibility of a connection. However, the moment he located Brittany's Facebook profile, he suddenly changed his tune. "They got teachers like this?" He asked Washington before sending her a direct message.
As Mack would tell it, Brittany took a long time to respond (not true). But the two of them decided to meet that following Saturday at Pappadeux for a first date. The two of them instantly hit it off, and what was a hesitant act of faith became a four-hour date with a waitress who had long decided to stop coming over to the table altogether.
On November 6th, 2021, Mackey proposed to Brittany, and #theGreenardWay officially began.
