Jorge and Takiyah met via the phone app Tinder. Nothing if not efficient, Jorge once went out on five Tinder dates in one week, but as soon as he met Takiyah, he stopped using the app because Takiyah was clearly the real life Beyonce. Jorge likes to say, "We won Tinder!"
Their first date began two hours and 45 minutes before Jorge turned 25, and they moved in together 3 weeks later. Not usually one to believe in signs, Takiyah could not help but notice that the song "Africa by Toto" played twice (once at each bar they went to) during their first date. A couple of weeks later, when Takiyah went to visit Jorge at his apartment on Georgia Avenue a woman was singing "Africa " on the corner for change. Takiyah decided that this was definitely not a coincidence. Later that night, they sang Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston songs together while watching a meteor shower. And that pretty much settled it.
They share a love for their cats but are still in negotiations regarding the correct name for a water fountain (or I mean the "Bubbler"). Jorge has been helping Takiyah cultivate an appreciation for camping, beer, and sci-fi movies. Takiyah, in turn, has introduced Jorge to the joys of recycling, as well as the intricacies of English grammar, which it turns out is a sure-fire cure for insomnia.
