We have always casually talked about rings and weddings. Working in the wedding industry has always had me day dreaming about it. Kenny told me to pick out a ring I loved, send it to him, and I would “get it when I get it”. We love a good surprise haha. A few years back I happened upon this cute small owned jeweler based out of New York one day on Instagram. Their website had some of the most unique rings I’ve ever seen. I sent a few that caught my eye to Kenny and he saved the links, then we didn’t really speak of it much again. This past Christmas, I unsuspectingly opened a present and on a large square box was the logo of the jeweler. I knew it wasn’t a ring due to the size but it made me know he paid attention. It was a sun stone lariat necklace, I almost never take it off. That same Christmas Kenny’s father surprised us with plane tickets to Costa Rica. Dave had just recently retired there late 2020, and wanted us to come see why. We planned our trip for just a couple months later at the end of February into March. Little did I know on January 30th, Kenny ordered a ring with only 4 weeks until we left. Not only is that a very short time but there were several bumps along the way on his journey. When he clicked the link to the ring I sent him well over a year ago, they no longer carried it. So he asked them to custom make one like it. He picked out the diamond, setting, and pave himself to get it as close to the original as he could. 4 weeks to custom make a ring and ship it isn’t a very long time. There was A LOT of emails back and forth. The ring obviously could not be delivered to our house because there was risk of me seeing it, so he had it delivered to his fathers house which was still on the market for sale here. The ring was originally suppose to be delivered 2 days before we left, but didn’t arrive. YIKES. Multiple Fedex phone calls later, Kenny ended up having them leave it at a drop location in town, but there was no guarantee it would make it in time. All of this was going on while I was home minding my own business while Kenny was panicking on the couch. Am I oblivious or what? He ended up making an excuse to leave the house to make some phone calls so I couldn’t hear him. Less than 24 hours before we left for the airport Kenny succeeded and finally had the ring in hand. PHEW. He wasn’t out of the woods yet though, he still had to hide it in his carry on AND make it through customs with it. For advice on this he called in his aunt Nancy because his cousin Cassandra was just recently proposed to in Disney. We made it all the way through the airport and into Costa Rica undetected. His dad picked us up at the San Jose airport and from there we took a 4 hour car ride south to Dominical. Once we arrived, his dad discreetly took us to some of the most beautiful places so Kenny could pick one to propose. On March 2nd we headed up the mountains and into the jungle to the Nauyaca Waterfalls. It was beautiful. We swam in the spring below the falls for an hour before heading out. We were packing up and getting ready to leave when Kenny asked me to take a photo with him, RED FLAG. Kenny hates taking pictures. I was just happy as a clam he wanted a photo and so unsuspecting. He picked a rock for us to stand on and even asked a woman to move. I remember thinking how crazy and rude that was but still my brain didn’t compute the situation. Moments later I’m fixing my hair to take a photo and next thing I know there he was down on one knee. If you’re on Facebook you probably saw the video, but you probably didn’t know I put music over it because you can hear me saying “shut the fuck up, shut the fuck up, when did you do this?!” haha. I was so shocked I didn’t even know how to respond. I don’t even think I officially said yes. I ripped the ring out of the box threw it on my finger, and the rest is history.
