What You Need to Know
First of all - Thank you for taking the time to read this. :)
We have chosen Crete as it lends itself perfectly to a small beach town vibe, but with an imposing landscape and rich culture. It is inexpensive but without sacrifice and packed with "out of this world" beaches and weather, along with an authentic Greek feel. To illustrate this, have a look further through this website on the "things to do" page to see what Crete has to offer.
We do know this means that many of you will have to travel either from France or Australia which is not an easy ask. As much as we would love everyone to make it, we will not be offended if anyone is unable to make the trip of course, and totally understand.
Airports: Crete has two airports: Chania International Airport and Heraklion International Airport. Chania is closer to Rethymno, where the wedding will be but it is easy enough to get there from Heraklion International Airport.
There are direct flights from most cities in France (Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Nice etc). The cost of a return flight is around 100€-300€ (depending on the dates/airline etc).
You can fly direct to Heraklion International Airport from many main cities also, including Paris, London, Berlin and Athens.
From Chania Airport, you can travel to Rethymno via:
~1h Drive: This option is probably the easiest as Greece doesn't have the best public transport. There are also so much to discover so I would recommend hiring a car if you are staying longer than a few days. Hiring a car from the airport is quite easy. You can compare the cost of the car hire via Kayak, Skyscanner or RentalCars. The car hire should be around 15€ to 30€ per day.
~1h30 Direct bus: For the one of you who will only come for a long weekend, you can get a bus from the airport directly to Rethymno old town. You can buy a ticket here.
From Heraklion airport, you can travel to Rethymno via:
~1h20 Drive: This option is probably the easiest as Greece doesn't have the best public transport.
~2h Non Direct bus: For the one of you who will only come for a long weekend, you can get a bus from the airport, change into the city and then directly to Rethymno old town.
On the day of the ceremony: We will be providing a shuttle bus to pick everyone who wish to jump in at 4PM (TBC). We will also a shuttle bus coming back every hour between 12am-4am (TBC) for the one of you who needs to go back to Rethymno.
We have a separate section where we have set out some accommodation options in and near Rethymno.
For those of you who are staying longer than just the weekend, it is highly cost effective to get together in groups and hire a house in or around Rethymno through Air-BNB, Home Away or Booking.com.
Marina and Sam can help in any way they can, so please contact us with any questions you might have about the location of your accommodation or how to find some accommodation.
