Estes Park, CO
Estes Park, CO
Estes Park is a beautiful, little town in northern Colorado. The town is also at at 7,523 feet in elevation!
Estes Park is known for being one of the gateways for Rocky Mountain National Park. In addition to being a lovely resort town, and to hosting herds of migrating elk each year, Estes Park is also the location of the famous Stanley Hotel. The lovely building that inspired Steven King's "The Shining"
Stanley Hotel
The Stanley Hotel is the infamous hotel that inspired the Shining. But, don't worry; we've been assured that only some of the rooms are haunted.
The Stanley Hotel is lovely, in the center of Estes Park, and very close to the reception site at Della Terra. They are holding a room block with a special rate for our guests, just let them know you are with the wedding. But call quickly; the rooms fill up fast!
McGregor Mountain Lodge
If the haunted hotel is too much for you, we'd also recommend looking at McGregor's Mountain Lodge. While they don't have a special rate available for our wedding, their rooms are affordable, and they are close to both the Stanley and the Della Terra.

We want you to have a great time with us! however, being at high altitude can out a strain on your body, so it's important to know the symptoms of altitude sickness and how to prevent it.
Altitude sickness is caused by traveling quickly to a higher elevation, where your body has to work harder to pull the same about of O2 out of the surrounding air. The syptoms of altitude sickness are uncomfortable, and left un-regarded can be very dangerous. If you feel light-headed, have nausea, or feel overly tired, you might be experiencing the effects of low oxygen in your system.
It can take a few days to acclimate, so if you feel sick: sit down, drink water, take aspirin. If it's really bad, you may want to put your head between your knees. Don't push yourself, and take it easy on the drinks (as you'll feel the effects of alcohol faster)
Now the good news! We're going to be hosting an oxygen bar at the reception! This is a great way to feel 100% in low oxygen climates, and it's super fun.
There's no such thing as bad weather; only the wrong clothes!
We suggest that you pack the following items to really enjoy your stay:
-chapstick
-lotion
-asprin (very handy in high altitude)
-hat/mittens
-bathing suit (for hot tubs / hot springs)
-lozenges / your favorite hot tea
Skiing
Skiing in the Rockies is great fun! While the traditional ski resorts are a bit further from Estes, there are still some great option for skiing nearby; especially if you like terrain skiing!
Snowshoeing
When summer is gone and the trails are covered with snow you don't have to put away your hiking boots & daypack. With the addition of winter clothing, a pair of snowshoes and a set of poles, you can enjoy Colorado Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park throughout the winter season. The advent of smaller, lighter snowshoes makes this is one of the fastest growing sports in America.
Rocky Mountain "High"
Colorado let's you experience the high life; but if you chose to partake, do it safely and legally.
