Dress Code

"Oregon Semi-Formal"

Before you Google what this means, don't worry about it - we made it up! Please wear your preferred wedding outfit while keeping in mind the weather and venue.

The average weather on this day is sunny and 70s with a light breeze. We'll be on grass all day so consider that as you select your shoes. A light jacket in Oregon is never a bad idea.

There will be plenty of shade and a large tent to keep you comfortable.

"If you're going to wear sandals, at least put on a nice pair of socks." - Sam

THE COOKIES

(A note from Christina)

My great-grandparents immigrated to western Pennsylvania in the 1920's from southern Italy. They put down roots in a small town called Franklin with a thriving southern Italian community.

During the great depression in that region, it became customary to have buffets of homemade Italian cookies at weddings instead of cake out of frugality. Once the economy got better and cakes were back in vogue, the cookie table continued!

I grew up hearing about the extravagant cookie tables my grandparents and parents had at their weddings and I really wanted to carry on the tradition. My sweet mom has been baking up a storm for months from my grandma and great grandma's recipes. She came for a weekend to visit me in Oregon and we had a fun time baking the rest together (and also drinking champagne).

We'll have 12 time-honored, family-favorite recipes and more than 90 dozen cookies! And don't miss the chocolate made in my hometown, Findlay, Ohio. Mangia!

Menu

Ed's Scramble | Eggs, roasted vegetables, caramelized onion, spinach & ranchero sauce. Optional bacon, cheddar & jack cheeses and sour cream.

Accommodations

Westcliff Lodge

As of 4/19/23, there were 2 rooms and 2 glamping spots left! If you'd like to stay here and it appears fully booked, let us know. We have a couple tricks up our sleeves.

Westcliff Lodge is where the wedding will take place! It's located right on the Columbia River, family-owned and operated since the 1960's. We'll be here all weekend, so this is the place to be for maximum fun. Discounted rates are available for June 15-19 ranging from $130-$260.

To secure the lowest rate, please call the lodge directly and reference the DeArment/Ellison wedding at 541-386-2992.

Two-night minimum required to access the discounted rate. Two-night minimum required for check in on Friday or Saturday. You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of your stay for a full refund.

Gorge Base Camp RV Park

For our RV and camping loving friends! This RV park is located just across the bridge from Hood River and about 10 minutes from Westcliff Lodge. It offers full hookup, restrooms and showers, starting at $62. There are a handful of campsites available for $35. Currently accepting reservations for June 2023 so book now.

Wyeth Campground

A beautiful public campground for tent camping, 15 minutes from Westcliff Lodge. We've reserved a large group site for Saturday thru Monday, so just let us know if you'd like to stay here. $5 per day per car.

Other options

While there are a ton of hotels and vacation homes in the greater Hood River area, it's an incredibly busy tourist and wedding destination in the summer. Airbnbs are an option to book early. Hotels are more complicated, and may fill up suddenly as rooms are released to the public. Please do your research and don't assume you'll be able to book something last minute.

Airport Info

The closest airport to Hood River, Oregon is the Portland International Airport. It's about an hour away. Rental cars are available.

Fun fact: Travel & Leisure magazine has ranked the Portland airport the #1 domestic airport for 9 years in a row!

Taxis in Hood River

Currently there is NO Uber or Lyft servicing The Gorge because it’s too remote. Gorge Taxi Service is the local taxi option providing service in and around the Hood River area. You can also book them as an airport shuttle or a wine tour!

Things to Do

Hiking

Springtime hikes in the Gorge are becoming a tradition for us! Check out the AllTrails website to explore your options for a big adventure. A few to consider:

Latourell Falls Loop (2 miles, 45 mins from Hood River, pretty easy)
Tamanawas Falls (3.5 miles, 30 mins from Hood River, medium difficult)
Angel's Rest (4.5 miles, 40 mins from Hood River, difficult)

For just a taste, Indian Creek is a great option right in the town of Hood River.

Vista House

Drive up to the Vista House for incredible views of the Columbia River. This is a great place to take in the scenery of the region and snap some photos.

Multnomah Falls

If you are driving to Hood River from Portland or the Portland Airport during the day you will see Multnomah Falls in all her glory on your drive down I-84. Multnomah Falls claims to be the #1 natural tourist attraction in the Pacific Northwest and for good reason. It's beautiful!

If you'd like to visit, you will need to pre-purchase a parking reservation for $2. This area can get busy so if you think you'd like to go, I'd suggest making the reservation in advance.

Mt. Hood Railroad

Mount Hood Railroad is a century-old, short line railroad offering scenic passenger excursions through Northern Oregon. It offers 2 1/2 hour round-trip excursions that travel through orchards, vineyards, and forests enjoying picture-perfect views of snow-capped Mt. Hood and capturing the nostalgia of classic American train travel along the way. Fun for kids and adults!

Wine tasting

The Columbia Gorge wine region spans both the Oregon and Washington side of the Columbia River. If you only have time for one, Mt. Hood Winery is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. For a directory of wineries in the area visit the Columbia Gorge Winery Association website.

Guided tours

Hire a guide to take you on a wine, beer, hiking or waterfall tour! The general manager at Westcliff Lodge recommended Martin's Gorge Tours.

Brewery hopping

The Columbia Gorge is home to many of Oregon’s greatest breweries. If you’ve only got time for one, we recommend pFriem, which has won dozens of awards around the world for its beers and has a beautiful taproom.

Other adventures

Hood River is an outdoor adventurer's dream with mountain biking, fishing, white water rafting, summertime skiing (really!), wind surfing and more! Check out this site produced by Travel Oregon to explore your options, including family-friendly ideas.
