Getting to the Lake District

If traveling via train, Oxenholme is the main line connection point. Direct trains from London Euston take 2.5-3.0 hours and under 2.0 hours from Edinburgh. From Oxenholme, there is a connecting train to Windermere which takes 19 minutes.

Train times and tickets can be found on The Trainline website.

Getting around the Lake District

Inside the Lake District, you will need to either drive or book taxis to get around. Uber and other ride-hailing services do not cover the area and some taxis only accept cash so check when booking. Our recommended taxi companies are:

Lakeside Taxis

Merecab

Bowness Taxis

We are happy to help co-ordinate travel on the day and please let us know if you need any help.

Recommended accomodation

We think it is best to stay in Windemere (town) or Bowness-on-Windemere and to find accommodation with free cancellation. Both towns have a number of cafes, restaurants and bars for you to enjoy over the weekend. Most, if not all, accommodation can be found on Booking.com or AirBnB and should be your first port of call.  We have looked on both and have some recommendations below:

Cambridge House

Holly Lodge

Rum Doodle

Windermere Park
