As many of you may known Rob and Katie both went to Oregon State University. However, the couple did not meet there. They actually meet through a mutual friend.
At the time Katie was living in Portland, Oregon. One day Blaine Zimmerman asked Katie if she would like to go to Seattle with him to spend some time with friends. Katie had not spent much time in Seattle and happily agreed to join him for the trip.
As Blaine and Katie were headed up to Seattle Blaine called Rob and told him he had a surprise for him and handed Katie the phone. Rob was not sure what Blaine was talking about, but as he started talking to Katie it was very difficult to hear her, but thought maybe it was someone he had already knew. Rob was not thrilled to say the least by this, because he thought this person was someone who he had previously had a falling out with.
Once the two arrived in Seattle and they headed off to meet up with the group of friends. When Blaine and Katie arrived at the bar the group was meeting up at. Rob noticed his friend, Blaine, walking into the bar right away and to his delight Blaine's companion was not person he thought it was, but a beautiful red head. Rob likes to say he loved Katie ever since that moment.
Rob and Katie had been friends for years and once they finally got together, it didn’t take them long to realize that they wanted to get married. The couple decided they were going to tie the knot while they were on a cruise on the Gulf of Mexico. That’s when they decided to start looking at rings.
After Rob had finally found the perfect ring for Katie, he wanted to plan the perfect proposal. He wanted it to be a complete surprise for Katie but she always seemed to know his plan or something would happen that would make Rob feel it wasn’t the perfect moment. After several foiled proposals and months later they were still not engaged.
One evening, Rob and Katie were planning a date night. Rob suggested to go to The Oyster Bar. Katie was suspicious, because they usually went to this restaurant for special occasions.
The couple had a romantic candlelit dinner but as the check came there was still no proposal. The couple headed to their vehicle and started to head home. Katie was having such a wonderful night with Rob that she didn’t want it to end. So she started making suggestions of things they could do. However, Rob had something else in mind. He decided to pull over at a lookout area and suggested a moonlit walk. As they were walking, they came across a large rock the over looked the ocean. They moved on to the rock to see the magnificent view. As Katie was enjoying the view, Rob got down onto one knee with a ring in his hand. Rob looked lovingly at Katie and expressed his love and his desire to spend the rest of his life with her. Ending with, “will you marry me?” Immediately Katie said yes and pulled Rob up for a hug and kiss.
Later Rob said he wanted the proposal to be just him and Katie because that’s what their marriage will be, just the two of them.
