How We Met

Gerald and Kamika met while having mutual friends on Foursquare. The two then, began "following each other,". Soon after, they quickly realized, often they frequented the same places as well as, interacted with quite a few of the same people. Gerald's Elementary/Middle and High school friends (Shout out to: Frederick Douglass High) ironically had been some of Kamika's closest, College School Friends (Always a shoutout to: THE FROSTBURG STATE). While on a Girl's trip to New Orleans with Kamika's friends - Riane and Nailah, Gerald and Kamika had their first contact and began getting to know each other. Gerald asked Kamika to go one a date, once she was back in town. Kamika called Laurean to confirm, all was well...HAHAHA - Laurean excitedly approved! Gerald and Kamika met for their first date at San Antonio Bar & Grill in Alexandria, followed by a movie (which Kamika slept through the entire thing). Following the movie, they talked in Gerald's truck for hours. The rest is history.....

The Proposal

As everyone knows Kamika and Gerald loves to travel. More importantly than that, they absolutely love traveling and making memories together. When Kamika suggested that they should go to Tulum, Mexico for Gerald's 36th birthday, he almost instantly knew that it was the perfect time and key place to ask her to be his wife. January 26th 2022 was both the most relaxing and nerve racking day for Gerald. Kamika planned a perfect day for them. It started with an amazing lunch followed by an awesome couples massage. As the day came to an end, Gerald told Kamika that he really wanted to have dinner on the beach and that he already made reservations. Although this went against what Kamika had already had planned, she happily went along with it (and all the wardrobe changes that came with it lol) ..

When Kamika and Gerald pulled up to the restaurant it was actually pretty funny because all of the employees were talking to him ("Hey Mr. Rich, good to see you again Mr. Rich") and the whole time Kamika was questioning how they knew him. As they walked on to the beach there was a beautiful set up with their table facing out to the water. The photographer that I hired days in advance was already there blending in as a restaurant employee. Before they sat down to eat, Gerald asked Kamika if she wanted to take a picture (of course she said yes to a picture). The photographer began taking pictures giving them different poses to use. There was supposed to be a sign that the photographer gave to signify “this is the moment go” but Gerald had missed it so he made the call when the moment was right.

He looked into Kamika’s eyes and dropped to his knee, in his mind he believed that he had made this eloquent statement of love before he asked the question, but honestly the only thing he could remember saying is “every year you ask me what I want for my birthday, this year I’ve decided I want you for the rest of my life” and of course she yes!
