I slide in his DM! Which is true, but that is not how this came to be. The first time we crossed paths was actually at Corey’s house (which I didn’t know at the time).
District Running Collective (DRC) was having a kickback and I decided to attend with a friend. Corey was too busy hosting to say more than hello. A few months later, we were both at the gym. I was there working on physical therapy techniques with my mentor and Corey was working out.
His personal trainer was introducing him to my mentor to see if DRC could benefit from collaborating with a physical therapist. Since I just so happened to be there, I also got introduced (lucky me). I continued to go to the gym to “work on techniques” a few times per week during hours that correlated with Corey’s workout schedule. We would briefly talk in-person, but we eventually exchanged Instagram information (such a millennial).
A few weeks went by where I was no longer coming to the gym and Corey reached out to say he missed seeing me. Conversations became more frequent, then I finally got his phone number only for him to ask me on a date. You can figure out the rest which is why you’re being invited to our website.
Fun Fact: Corey and I actually crossed paths in Johannesburg, South Africa at the Apartheid Museum in December. We found out later because we both saw the same celebrity!- Rhianna
To say 2020 was a buzz kill would be an understatement! But it did bring me something very special that will change my life forever.
Let me explain...
You all know me, I like to do it big for the people I love, so after my elaborate engagement plans were brought to a screeching halt due to COVID, I was forced to come up with something special on a much smaller scale.
The Set-Up
I set the plan into action by making sure she was getting her hair done on her normal schedule and asked some friends to invite her on a spa date to make sure her nails were on point (for the ring shot) and planted the idea that we should dress up for date night and take pictures by the National Christmas Tree.
The Day
The day started with Rhianna asking me “What is your favorite memory of us?” Thinking quickly on my toes I immediately answered there are so many I would have to think about it, then proceeded to the bathroom where I began to worry that somehow the surprise proposal had been ruined because I had planned to ask a similar question as a part of the proposal!
The Date
Not to toot my own horn but the date was perfect lol. We walked around the Christmas Market in Chinatown, went and ate dinner at BKK and then took a stroll through City Center and took pictures with all the lights, typical DC vibes during the holidays. After pictures, I suggested that we get a nightcap at our favorite speakeasy before heading home.
The Main Event
We walk into 600T and the owner Steve checked our temps and tells us how lucky we are to have the whole bar to ourselves since business was slow that night because of COVID. We sat and conversed about life. I finally answered her question from earlier that day, but asked her the same question in return. After she answered I told her I wanted to create an even better memory and to follow me *cues music (Prince Adore). We walk outside to the patio where about 25 friends and family were gathered “socially distant” and I dropped to one knee.
“Oh shit!” Were the first words out of her mouth (check the video) when she saw everyone outside. I can’t remember exactly what I said in that moment but before I could even get out the words “Will you marry me?” Rhi said, “YES!”- Corey
