Deckers
One of our favorite day trips from Castle Rock is to visit the North fork of the South Platte River, just to the west in the San Isabel National Forest. Take Highway 67 Southwest from Sedalia, and within 40 minutes you’ll be at the river, which offers some of the best trout fly fishing in the region. Keep following the river South to reach the town of Deckers (a fly shop & convenience store), where the river converges at Cheesman Lake. Aside from the river, the area offers beautiful hikes and a handful of hosted (paid) campgrounds. On your way to the river you’ll pass through the Rampart Range, offering countless off-roading trails and dispersed (free) campsites just 20 minutes from town.

An awesome spot for walking or biking that features a river and is great for all skill levels!
Castlewood Canyon
Looking to get outside? Nature lovers and groups can enjoy environmental diversity on several hiking trails ranging from mild to moderate here at the park. Casual groups and families can enjoy the picnic areas at both entrances.
Hillstone
With an inviting outdoors atmosphere, Hillstone brings its hospitality and comfort food to Cherry Creek. There is a parking lot (a hot commodity around these parts) and TVs at the bar for those eager to catch a game. Though the menu spans sushi to fried chicken, the Famous French Dip with prime rib is a good place to start.
