TRAVEL PLANNING
While our wedding is on February 10th, 2024, we'll begin festivities with a welcome party on February 8th and an activity day on February 9th.
Costa Rica is a wondrously beautiful country that is bursting with rainforests, volcanos, coastal towns, activities, and incredible people (affectionately known as Ticos). We want you to treat this as a vacation, so other than attending the wedding ceremony and reception, you can decide how you'd like to spend your time in Costa Rica!
We do recommend that you extend your trip if you'd like because how often is it that you're in paradise?!
Airports
Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)
Costa Rica has two major airports. We recommend that you fly into LIB airport as it's about a 2.5-hour drive to Nosara. We will be arranging shuttle buses from LIB to Nosara, but you're also welcome to rent a car and make your way down while stopping in other areas!
Flight Times (Wed 2/7 and Thurs 2/8)
If you plan on coming in Thursday 2/8 (and want to go to the welcome party), we recommend that you get a flight into LIR by 3:00pm at the latest, so you have time to get your luggage, get on a shuttle, and get to your AirBnb and relax before the party. If you plan on coming in Wednesday 2/7, we'll have several shuttles depending on when people come in, so feel free to do what works best for you.
Flight Times (Sunday 2/11) We will also be arranging shuttles from Nosara to LIR airport on Sunday 2/11 throughout the morning/day. We recommend getting a flight out of Liberia no earlier than 1:00pm (CR time). This will mean an 8am shuttle departure from Nosara!
Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO)
If you're planning on taking an extended vacation in Costa Rica (which we totally recommend!), you could fly into San Jose International Airport and do a road trip through the rainforests, volcanos, and coastal towns of Costa Rica and end up in Nosara. It's a four to five hour drive from San Jose to Nosara, so we don't recommend flying into San Jose if you're planning a shorter trip.
Please fill out this travel form if you haven't already done so.
Shuttles
We are arranging group transportation for those flying to LIB and going directly to Nosara on Wednesday (Feb 7th) and Thursday (Feb 8th). We kindly that everyone please fill out our travel form. We will arrange group transportation based on arrival times.
For those extending their trips or those arriving on any day other than Wednesday/Thursday, there are daily shuttles from LIB to Nosara.
Rental Cars
If you are extending your stay and prefer a rental car, there are plenty of rental car options from both LIB and SJO. Vamos Rent-a-Car is a reputable car rental company in Costa Rica that we've used multiple times, but you can search rental cars for Liberia / San Jose in Kayak, Google, etc. and find all the major brands (Hertz, Avis, etc.) if you prefer to use something you're familiar with.
Plane (Quickest)
Small plane (SANSA) from either Liberia or San Jose to Nosara. They offer daily flights to/from Nosara airport to both Liberia (~30 mins) and San Jose (~1 hr) . These book up, so we recommend booking as soon as you figure out your travel plans!)
We recommend renting a golf cart of ATV - it's a fun way to get around town and will make it a bit easier to bop around. We've provided several rental agencies below!
Nosara also has Tuk Tuk's which are essentially 3-wheel taxis that are available on demand. You'll find them around town and all the drivers have Whatsapp. As for their number and you can contact them for the remainder of your trip!
We are encouraging folks to book their stay at Nosara Beach Hotel since this is the closest hotel to our wedding Venue (La Luna). However, you definitely do not need to stay here. Nosara is full of amazing hotels and yoga retreats. Additionally, Playa Giunoes and Playa Pelada (the two main areas we will be in) have an abundance of beautiful villas/condos for rent. Please see below for alist of hotels and rental companies we recommend.
