Nipun & Mandira

Welcome

×

Welcome to our celebration!
We highly encourage our guests to share pictures on our wedding site under the Gallery Tab. We would love to see the memories you all have captured!

The story behind our cover picture - for those of you who know Nipun, he is a huge Lord of The Rings fan (actually that may be an understatement). We chose iconic scenes from the movies for each event and had Mandira's cousin - the very talented Trisha Vaghasia - create illustrated renditions of the scenes with Lord Ganesha! We hope everyone becomes a major Lord of The Rings fan through this celebration! Can you guess which movie each scene belongs to?

Thank you Trisha for creating this magic for us!

Enchanted Butterfly Garden

Why butterflies? Two butterflies flying together are also seen as a symbol for a happy marriage, as one butterfly represents the husband and the other represents the wife. Their carefree and happy nature reflects what the ideal marriage should be. Thus to create this happy atmosphere, Nipun & Mandira folded 2,500 origami butterflies. (They can't wait for you to see it!)

Dress Code

Something fun, something colorful, and most importantly something comfortable to dance in!

Please refer to the FAQ section for more info on Indian attire.

Ceremony Info

Sangeet is a night of energetic and playful cultural dancing that commonly takes place before Indian weddings to heighten the excitement of all the upcoming festivities. The literal meaning of sangeet is sing together, and we don't deviate much from the meaning.

Anyone can choose to participate in the dancing. You don't even need to know any steps - we'll teach you the basics! It is easy to learn and fun to watch even if you are not the dancing type.

In addition, guests will have the option of getting mehndi, or henna, done by a traditional artist that evening. There is an age-old belief that for the bride, the darker the mehndi, the more she is loved by her future husband and in-laws.

Havana Nights - Ooh na-na (ayy)!

Why a Cuban themed-party? Well, why not?!
Let's kick off the wedding festivities with a tropical Cuban flair, Reggaeton beats, yummy Mexican food, and chilled margaritas.

Dress Code

Dressy Causal

Mujeres (Ladies): Your best island dress! Think off-shoulder necklines, swirly skirts, ruffles, tiered layers, even fringes. Pair it with some big hoop earring and color beaded necklace (the chunkier, better)

Hombres (Men):  Bermuda shorts or slacks and sandals paired with your favorite Guayabera shirt - typically made with linen fabric, which makes them ideal as a stylish summer shirt especially in hot and humid places like Cuba (impress the bride with a fun, tropical print!)

Ceremony Info

The pithi is a traditional Indian ceremony in which the bride and groom are cleansed with a doughy paste made of turmeric powder, channa flour and mustard oil in order to purify them before the wedding. Basically, guests get to slather a bright yellow/orange paste on Nipun/Mandira and he/she can't do anything about it. Traditionally, once the ceremony has taken place the bride and groom are no longer permitted to leave their homes, but we like to have a little fun and break the rules, so this will not be the case for us. In fact, why not share the fun? Immediately following the pithi, will be our welcome party to kick-start our wedding festivities filled with music, dancing, food, drinks, and good vibes from all of you.

Ceremony Info

The Hindu Wedding ceremony starts with the Welcoming of the Groom (Baraat, see below). The wedding ceremony is performed beneath a decorated wedding altar “Lagna Mandap” which is represented by four pillars denoting our Parents. The Ceremony is performed in English and Sanskrit, the world’s most ancient surviving language.

The Baraat is a raucous celebration centered around parading the groom to the wedding. Traditionally, the baraat begins at the groom’s family’s house with the groom’s side of the family. In the interest of time, we will begin in the parking lot of the venue. In addition, we invite all those interested in dancing early in the morning to join in, regardless of which side they belong to!

The ceremony consists of:

Hast Melap - Acceptance of the bride from the Groom
Mangal Pheras - The couple walks around the sacred fire four times, symbolizing the walk of life. The four rounds signify their journey together to attain Dharma (duty), Artha (wealth and prosperity), Karma (fulfillment of worldly desires), and Moksha (spirituality and salvation).
Saptapadi - the Vows
Kanyadan - Offering of the bride to the groom

“Meet us under the disco ball”

The dim lights, the disco ball, fabulous fashion, and the dance floor are all the vibes for our reception.
Don't worry, the DJ will provide the beat.
For a good time, just bring your dancing feet!

Khul ke jhoomon...
Khul ke gaao...
Aao aao yeh khul ke kaho...
It's the time to disco!

Dress Code

Rule number one is that you gotta have fun! Rule number two, you MUST go all out with your outfit. Bling out with jewels, shimmer, metallic and sequins. Don't be shy from wearing all sorts of groovy patterns from striped, animal, floral, and funky! (You can even dress up looking like a disco ball)

Ceremony Info

The wedding reception, well, that's pretty self-explanatory. But why is it called a reception? A wedding reception is a party usually held after the completion of a marriage ceremony in which the couple receive society, in the form of family and friends, for the first time as a married couple - hence the name reception.

Do I need to pay for parking at the venues?

No, you do not need to pay for parking at any of the wedding venues.

There’s a lot of free parking around Fullerton if you venture out (Just ask Nipun about it, he loves free parking as much Sir Mix-a-lot likes big butts.) If paid parking is required, it is usually very clearly identified.

Dress Code

What should I wear?

Indian attire is NOT required at our wedding. However, if you’ve always wanted to wear a saree, or want to totally immerse yourself in our big fat Indian wedding, we would love for you to wear Indian clothes! We’ve put together a guide to Indian clothing to help you out:

Kurti/Kameez

A kurti (koor-tee), also called a kameez, is a long blouse or tunic dress. This very comfortable option is often worn as casual-wear but dressier wedding-appropriate styles are also available. It is paired with salwar trousers, which are similar to leggings, or palazzo trousers, which are a very loose fit. It may be paired with a dupatta, a matching long scarf that is draped over one shoulder.

Anarkali

An anarkali (an-are-kohli) is the most similar to a Western dress. It is fitted at the top and flares out at the bottom. Similar to the kurti, it is a comfortable and easy-to-wear option. Salwar trousers, similar to leggings, are usually worn underneath. It may be paired with a dupatta, a long scarf that is often draped over one shoulder. Want bonus points? Check out this tutorial on how to drape your anarkali dupatta a few different ways: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyCNBeLhKgA  (and be sure to secure your dupatta with safety pins so you can comfortably dance the night away!).

Saree

A saree (sah-ree) is the most widely recognized and traditional piece of Indian attire. It is also probably the most difficult style to wear. It is composed of three pieces: a blouse called a choli is worn on top, and a petticoat is worn as an underskirt. The saree itself is a long, rectangular piece of fabric 5-9 yards in length that is draped around the waist and across the bust to achieve the final look. You will probably need an experienced saree-wearer to help drape your saree, and many safety pins to keep it intact! Feeling adventurous? Check out this tutorial on how to drape your own saree: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ftq9_kEHDmo

Lehenga

A lehenga (lehn-gah) is somewhere in-between a saree and a dress. It is composed of a blouse (choli), an embellished skirt (lehenga), and a long scarf (dupatta) that is draped over the shoulder. The dupatta can be draped in multiple different ways to give you minimal to maximal midriff coverage. Check out this tutorial on how to drape your lehenga dupatta a couple different ways: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gNU4ZMCfh8 (and be sure to secure your dupatta with safety pins so you can comfortably dance the night away!)

Sherwani

A sherwani (share-vahn-ee) is a men’s knee-length jacket (like a long suit coat) worn with loose cloth leggings called pajama (not your sleepwear). There are some variations in the pants worn with a sherwani. This is commonly worn with loafers or sandals but dress shoes can also be worn.

Kurta

A kurta is a light knee-length pull-over long shirt, also worn with pajama (loose cloth leggings). This is a more casual (and less hot) alternative to the sherwani. This is commonly worn with loafers or sandals but dress shoes can also be worn.

No Indian shops nearby?

We found reasonably priced Indian attire with shipping to the US at  https://www.kalkifashion.com/ , https://www.aishwaryadesignstudio.com/https://www.perniaspopupshop.com/,  and https://www.azafashions.com/ . We have personally ordered clothing from these sites so we can vouch for their quality. A warning if you are purchasing a saree or lehenga online: the blouse is often custom-tailored and so you may only receive the fabric to sew a blouse, instead of a ready-to-wear item, or they may charge extra to stitch the blouse for you (read the fine print to be sure). Also, these stores probably ship from India, and may require tailoring time so please order earlier than usual.

Pictures

Is there an easy way to share the pictures I've taken during the events?

There sure is! Open this site on a web browser on a computer or, better yet, download this app on your phone, open the gallery section, and upload your pics. We highly encourage our guests to share pictures on our wedding site. We will have a professional photographer and videographer at the events, but we would also love to see the pictures you have captured on our beautiful day!

Will there be a way for me to see all the professional pictures from the events?

We will upload all photos from the professional photographer to this website. Please be patient as the team will require a couple of months to edit the pictures.

Food

What type of food can I expect?

There will be vegetarian and nonvegetarian food for all events (except wedding day which will be strictly vegetarian). The predominant cuisine will be ethnic Indian cooked in the traditional fashion with onion and garlic. We are thrilled to serve you the amazing food we have planned for all of you!

Gifts

Should I bring a gift?

Please no boxed gifts at the wedding.
