Transportation in Iceland
Flight bus
The international airport, where you will arrive, is located in Keflavík - approximately 45 minutes west of Reykjavik.
The cheapest way to get to Reykjavík is by bus. There are several flight bus services, but we recommend FLYBUS. They have buses going after every flight, so there will always be available seats. However, we recommend you to get your bus ticket online in advance if you want to avoid standing in line to buy it in the airport after your arrival.
The bus ride is 45 minutes and terminates at the BSÍ bus terminal in Reykjavík. From there, you can either walk, take a taxi - or if you have bought a Flybus+ ticket, you can move to a smaller bus that will take you directly to your hotel/apartment or nearby.
You can buy ticket and find all other relevant information on the link below.
Car rental
There are several car rental companies located at the airport, with service desks located in the terminal’s arrivals hall. You should book your car rental before you arrive to save time and get the best deals. And remember not to compromise on the size of the car if you plan to drive into the Icelandic wilderness. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding car rental.
The city centre of Reykjavík is relatively small, and you can easily walk from place to place. However, you can also take the Stræto public bus around the city if you don't have a car.
The most flexible way to experience Iceland outside of Reykjavík is by car. Therefore, if you plan on getting around to see the beautiful landscapes, we recommend you to rent a car. But it is also possible to take a bus between the different cities and locations in Iceland.
