Dublin Airport
The nearest airport is Dublin (DUB). Dublin airport to Kilkea Castle takes 60 minutes by car.
Driving Options
If you're making a weekend trip of it, a good way to get around is by car. There are a number of car hire companies located at Dublin airport which can be pre-book and reasonably priced.
Alternatively there is a taxi rank outside the airport, a single journey direct to Kilkea Castle is c.150 euros.
'MyTaxi' app is the Irish equivalent of Uber and can be downloaded to get a competitive price.
Bus Route
An alternative way to get to Kilkea is via bus to Carlow (no. 4) and then a 15 min taxi ride to Kilkea Castle. The bus takes 1 hour 50 minutes from Dublin Airport (zone 13, stop 111941) to Carlow Coach Station. Be warned buses are not that frequent.
Routes can be found on Rome2Rio.
Travel to Day Dalkey
The coach will depart from outside Kilkea Castle at 12.30. Check-out at Kilkea is 11.00 for those in Lodge rooms and 12.00 for those in Carriage rooms. Later check out can be requested but isn’t guaranteed. Again the coach has capacity for 50 people.
Breakfast is included within your package and will be served between 8.00-11.00. If you are staying in a Carriage room, breakfast will be served in restaurant 1180 in the main castle. If you are a Lodge guest, make your way to Hermione’s at The Clubhouse. We recommend having breakfast as late as possible if you are coming on to ‘Day Two’ festivities. You do need to let the Castle know what time you would like breakfast when you check-in.
Check-in at The Fitzpatrick CastleHotel is 15.00. We have asked for early check-in where possible. However, if you want to pass the time, Tower Tea Rooms in Killiney is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. They serve great cakes and treats, set in a beautiful forested area.
Boundary House is a 19-minute walk, alternatively the hotel will be more than happy to help book a taxi. We recommend pre-ordering these, alternatively use ‘MyTaxi’ app.
If you are not staying at The Fitzpatrick we have asked for the coach to make a pre-stop at Finnegan’s Pub which is a 5-minute walk from Boundary House to get some pre-pints of Guinness in!
Food will be served from 17.00, those staying at The Fitzpatrick have time to freshen up, however the closer to 15.00 you can get to Boundary House, the more live music and fizz can be enjoyed (hair of the dog, you will need it)!
For those traveling back to the airport after 'Day Two' festivities from Dalkey, Dublin Airport is c.50 minutes by car. Taxis are readily available.
