Andy's Welcome

×

On behalf of the Jeans and Conn families, very warm greetings once again
from Zimbabalooba!!

It's been one hellava tough year,
resulting in many a sad tear.
But nothing's gonna stop us this time!
We Zimbo's are made of stern stuff, so when in June the clocks chime
This union is damn well going ahead come war, virus, pelting rain or shine.

We fully understand that many lives have been affected one way or
another in the interim, but you will regret missing out on this occasion, so
pack a bag, and get here!

We are super excited to have you join us, so really hope you can make it!!

Our Story
It all started with a Splash
Meggie caught the travel bug
McJeansie was born
Letters lost and found
Until Tin Tin got a girlfriend
Little visits over long distance
until a new beginning
... in a beautiful homeland.
Coffee snob lessons for Meggie
& wonder lust shared
From cold climate adventures...
... to hotter ones.
The Question was popped...
Now a new adventure begins!
See you in June 2021

Alice Marffy
Alice Marffy
Bridesmaid (Bulldog)
This was an instant-pudding type friendship for the bride! She is a DIY, camping cottage, housemate, onsie lover, sunshine and sleepovers, soundboard with big dreams and an open door. Always there for everyone, so of course must be there on this day.
Rachel Jeans
Rachel Jeans
Bridesmaid (Sister-in-law)

With super sassy survival skills as a sister to Mike & Phil; she is a down to earth magic, adventure advocate, student of animals, and dynamite with a sugar snap bang.
If Meg needed another reason to marry Mike - she is it.

Groomsmen
Stuart Taylor
Stuart Taylor
Best Man
Stu and Mike have been close mates for over a decade, starting out as roommates in university and remaining inseparable since. They both share a love of fishing, a particular Underberg music festival and good old fashioned bush adventures. Moreover, the groom also has Stu to thank for engineering the very first meeting of his bride-to-be, Megan, 8 years ago. Stu is a gentleman and a fiercely loyal friend to Mike. One couldn’t ask for a finer set of qualities in a best man.
Phillip Jeans
Phillip Jeans
Groomsman
Phil is Mike’s brother and partner in crime, circa. 1993. They share the same hearty laugh and a wicked sense of humour. Phil can be jolly fine company around a campfire and many have learned to look out for his cheeky grin when he’s up to something. Mike couldn’t be happier to have Phil standing beside him on the big day.
Alistair Conn
Alistair Conn
Groomsman
Ali is not only Mike’s future brother-in-law, but also one of his favorite people. He is hands-down the coolest man you could ever have the good fortune to meet. From the moment they met, Ali welcomed Mike into the family with open arms and made him feel right at home. They have since shared many great moments together skiing down snowy slopes in Megeve, enjoying sunny Zambezi river sessions, and some very lively times in the Cape. Look out for Ali’s golden curly locks and infectious laugh.
Hosts

Simon has a special place in both Megan and Mike’s stories. He is a close family friend of the Conns, (he was Andy’s Best Man) and he knew Mike well during his formative years at St Johns College with Josh, his son. When the happy couple first became an item, while visiting the sleepy hamlet of Clarens, it was Simon who they revealed the news to first. Look out for his charm, wisdom and mad skills on the guitar. It will be an honour to have him officiate the big day.
Roddy Meiring

Flights

Flights Overview

You can get to Victoria Falls by flying into either the town of Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), which is the easier and recommended route, or by flying into the town of Livingstone (Zambia) which both have international airports serviced by several international flights a day. Flying into Livingstone is not advisable at the moment due to border restrictions which do not allow people to readily cross into Zimbabwe. If normal border crossings resume later in the year, we will let you know, as flights into Livingstone can be cheaper but one must bear in mind the added cost of taxi fees to get across the bridge to Zimbabwe, as well as any necessary visa fees (South African passports do not need visas but most international passports do. Please check out our "Visa" section on this site).

Airfares can vary greatly and are liable to change from day to day, depending on the airline and time of year. You can search all the major airlines and get the best deals available (in our experience) by using the Momondo search engine. It's a reliable site that usually gives you the best “bang for your buck” when it comes to finding the cheapest flights.

International Flight Information

Please make use of Momondo for best deals!

LONDON TO VICTORIA FALLS:
I personally like flying Virgin Airways for this route, these are usually the best direct options. Ethiopian Airways is the quickest and most affordable. However, it's a great option.

Ethiopian Airways via Addis Ababa = 13h 50m+
British Airways via Johannesburg = 13h 55m+
Kenya Airways via Nairobi = 14h 25m+
Virgin Atlantic via Johannesburg = 15h 30m+
Lufthansa via Frankfurt, Johannesburg = 16h 10m+
South African Airways via Johannesburg = 16h 20m+

SYDNEY TO VICTORIA FALLS:
Emirates & Kenya Airways via Dubai, Nairobi = 1d 2h+
Qantas & South African via Perth, Johannesburg = 1d 2h+
Singapore Airlines & Ethiopian via Singapore & Addis Ababa = 1d 2h+
Singapore Airlines & South African via Singapore & Johannesburg = 1d 2h+
Virgin Australia & South African via Perth & Johannesburg = 1d 2h+
Singapore Airlines & British Airways via Singapore & Johannesburg = 1d 3h+
And many more route options.

Access by Road

Driving into Victoria Falls

Travelling to Victoria Falls by road is certainly an option. Especially if you wish to explore more of the country during your trip. Petrol and diesel are easily available throughout Zimbabwe at the moment but we do experience occasional shortages, in which case we will try to keep you posted and we recommend driving via Botswana unless you are able to carry extra fuel in reserve. If you do aim to re-fuel along the way in Zimbabwe then be sure to bring US dollars cash (USD) with you as most petrol stations may not accept credit or debit cards. In South Africa and Botswana fuel stations accept all major credit and debit cards.

Zimbabwe has some strict requirements for vehicles entering the country, please read about cross border regulations here.

The major roads in Zimbabwe are still in fair condition and are perfectly acceptable to drive on.

If you are driving from Botswana or Zambia, it's best to fill up in Kasane before crossing the Kazungula Border, or in Livingstone before crossing the Victoria Falls Bridge Border.

BORDER POST OPTIONS

South Africa:

- Beitbridge Border Post: Between Zimbabwe and South Africa. Not the easiest border, avoid if possible.

Botswana:

- Plumtree Border Post: Between Botswana and Zimbabwe. Best to arrive early morning or late afternoon, but please note it is a still a long drive to the Falls so it is recommended to travel with fuel resources.

- Pandamatenga Border Post: Between Botswana and Zimbabwe. Usually a quick border, and closer to the Falls, but please note the road on the Zimbabwe side is tough dirt for about 80 kilometres. 4x4 necessary.

- Kazungula Border Post: Between Botswana and Zimbabwe. Sometimes very busy but efficient. Only 70km from the Falls and is an ideal place to refuel before entering Zim.

Zambia:

- Victoria Falls Bridge: Between Zambia (Livingstone) and Zimbabwe. Busy but efficient, and ideal for refuelling when required.

Info on COVID-19 Testing for Travel To and From Zimbabwe

COVID-19 Testing for Travelling

For traveling to Victoria Falls you need a negative COVID-19 PCR result within 48 hours of your flight departure for Zimbabwe.

PCR testing for leaving the country is available in Victoria Falls and it’s an efficient service.

It is done by Lancet Laboratory, which has a convenient drive-through testing service located at The Health Bridge Private Hospital (95 West Drive). This is located next door to the Fire Rescue service and opposite Shoe Strings Backpackers Lodge.

Lancet lab’s drive-through service collect test specimens for travelers from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.

The turnaround time for results is normally 6 hours (if collected at 08h00 then result by 14h00) but can be up to 24 hours if they are really busy.

The cost of a COVID-19 PCR test is USD 60 per person (about R 850 or £ 44) and you will have the option to collect a hard copy of your results or have an electronic copy emailed to you.

If in the event that you test positive, fear not, the protocol is that you will be referred to one of the resident doctors in Victoria Falls and they will guide you through the need for repeat testing (in case of a false positive) or self-isolation at your lodge if you have symptoms, as well as providing any medical care that you may require.

Any queries can be directed to Mike (the groom) or Lancet lab on +263-(0)-774700745.

Transportation

Airport Transfers & Taxis

VIC FALLS AIRPORT INTO TOWN / LODGES:
Airport Transfers:
There are many companies that offer a meet and greet airport service. The rate for an airport transfer is about US$18 per person one way.  We are working on special transfer rates and will advise closer to the time.

• Airport Taxis:
There are taxis around at the airport for every flight. Expect to pay about US$30 to $40 to get into town. We will be negotiating with companies leading up to the day to arrange special prices. Please try group up for this to make it more affordable. They will only take US$ cash or equivalent foreign currency cash.

LIVINGSTONE AIRPORT TO VIC FALLS TOWN:
If you have taken advantage of the cheaper flights into Livingstone but now need to get across to Zimbabwe.

• Airport Transfers:
Many companies offer a meet and greet airport service from Livingstone to Victoria Falls Zimbabwe. The rate for an airport transfer is about US$32 per person one way. We are working on special transfer rates and will advise closer to the time.

Airport Taxi:
Unfortunately you cannot catch just a single taxi to pick you up at Livingstone and drop you in Zimbabwe, because there is a border in between and the taxis do not have the required permission to cross. Therefore you will need to catch 3 taxis, one from Livingstone airport to the Zambian border post (+/- $25). Clear Zambian customs then catch another taxi across the bridge between the two border posts this is about 1.6kms (+/-$5) clear Zimbabwe customs and then catch another taxi to your hotel (+/- $5). These prices are per taxi not per person.

Reliable Taxis within Vic Falls

Taxis are available, and all of our recommended accommodation spots will call them for you when needed. They are also easy to find around the town centre. A fare anywhere is generally $5 to $10 - USD cash, but some do accept international debit & credit cards.
We will also inform reliable companies of our event areas before and after our wedding day so that taxis are readily available and can offer fixed or special rates.

Vulture Culture

Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the spectacular sight of hundreds of vultures swooping down and feeding on meat scraps and bones from the on-site vulture restaurant in front of Victoria Falls Safari Lodge at 1 pm daily.

As well as providing the opportunity for visitors to spot white headed vultures, hooded vultures, lappet faced vultures and white backed vultures, this supplementary feeding program aids the survival of these remarkable, but endangered birds.

No bookings are necessary. Simply meet before 1 pm on the viewing deck of the Buffalo Bar at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. A guide will invite and escort you to the vulture restaurant area.

The activity, which is free of charge and appeals to all age groups, begins with a briefing on a deck beneath Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, about the ecological importance of vultures and the plight they are facing, before guests take a short walk down a bush path to a hide where they are able to get an up close and personal view of the vultures feeding.

It is well worth enjoying a sundowner afterwards on the spectacular viewing deck. Big game may be seen at the waterhole from the Buffalo Bar, pool deck or while enjoying a sumptuous meal at the MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant upstairs.

The Boma dinner & drum show is also just a short walk away.

Places To Eat

The River Brewing Co.

The best pub grub in town served with refreshing locally brewed craft beer or gins. Their meals are hearty, generous and delicious. A firm favourite in Victoria Falls!

The Three Monkeys Restaurant & Cocktail Bar

Three Monkeys offers great food for the ravenous visitor at budget-friendly prices. They do a great peri-peri half chicken and their range of burgers come highly recommended. They also offer ice cream for those blazingly hot Zambezi days as well as a wide choice of cocktails served from their converted train carriage bar.

Victoria Falls Hotel

Steeped in history and one of the oldest Hotels in Africa, The Victoria Falls Hotel serves as a reminder of the distinguished and elegant era to which it was born. Built in 1904 by the British, its grounds are set on a beautiful vantage point, overlooking the Batoka gorge. A short stroll through its passage ways and courtyards transports you to the early days of Africa’s frontier. Nestled inside the hotel on the ground floor is the Larry Norton Gallery where a selection of the renowned wildlife artist’s latest original works is on display. The most striking attraction is the truly spectacular view it offers, with the gorge plummeting beneath you and the spray of the Falls drifting lazily over the span of Victoria Falls Bridge. It is a majestic setting to enjoy a drink, a meal or their highly recommended high tea.

The Lookout Cafe

Set atop the rocks of the Batoka Gorge and overlooking the rapids of the Zambezi river over ninety meters below, this is a spectacular spot for a coffee, a drink, or a meal. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. The Lookout Cafe is also the location of the Wild Horizons high wire adrenalin activities and The Victoria Falls Canopy Tour.

The Boma

The Boma is not just a place to have dinner but a dining experience. A traditional drum show will get you into the rhythm of the night while you enjoy a generous buffet featuring steaks and stews of Buffalo, Warthog, Guinea Fowl, Eland, Kudu, Impala and many other game delicacies for you to try. A carnivore’s delight! Bookings are essential.

MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant

This award-winning restaurant is open on three sides and overlooks the waterhole at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, offering a unique opportunity to view elephant and other wildlife as you enjoy your meal – truly some of the finest dining in Victoria Falls.

MaKuwa-Kuwa Restaurant is open for breakfast from 6.30am to 10am, lunch from 12.30pm to 2pm and dinner from 7pm to 10pm. Bookings are essential for dinner. The dress code is smart-casual.

Gifts
A Little Note On Gifts

We so appreciate the effort you are all going to make it to our wedding & do not expect anything more from you.

We have, however, had requests for gift ideas. Please follow this link (https://www.myregistry.com/giftlist/mikeandmeg) to our registry. We ask that, where possible, you travel with any gifts to avoid us finding a temporary home for them until we can get them to Zim. If the gifts cannot travel with you, or you are not travelling to us for the big day, please reach out. We can have a runner collect it from a pre-determined address in Johannesburg.

Please feel free to sway from the list, we appreciate any and all thoughtfulness!

Lots of love,
Mike & Meg
