How We Met: "His Version"

It all began back in Fall, 2013. The boys & I took a road trip to Columbia, SC for a back to school party at USC. So, you all know at the end of the party the lights come on and boom it is "moment of truth time". You get to see how people really look. During this time, was when I first saw Ms. Briana and I was like sheesh, she is a baddie. But she was with her girLS and I definitely was not going to approach a group of AKAs solo. That would have been a set up for failure. So, I just took a mental note and went on with my night.

Fast forward a couple of years, Briana and I also had a mutual friend named Ki, who was supposed to be serving as cupid. But she failed at her job horribly! The memo never got delivered to Briana or in her words “my bad Tim, it got lost in transit.” At that point, I was like man let me take this into my own hands. So, one weekend I noticed that Briana was in Charlotte via a picture she posted on IG. At that moment, I commented on her picture and got a reply back. I knew then that was my opportunity to slide in those DMs and shoot my shot. On my first attempt she came through like Mutombo and blocked my shot. But I was able to regather myself and hit the game winner. As time passed on, we were able to take our first date to Miyabis in Columbia, SC and from there the rest is history!

Words of Wisdom: Don’t miss your blessing by ignoring those DMs! Yo Gotti said it best! It goes down in the DM. Lol

How We Met: “Her Version”

Where do I even begin? Apparently, this young sir had been checking for the kid for awhile. Meanwhile, our slack friend Ki (love you, sis) had been forgetting & dropping the ball each time.

After a random trip w/ my girls to Charlotte, I receive a comment under a post & a DM on Instagram. Tim & I had mutual friends & had been friends on social media for some time, yet we had never really met nor really knew one another at all. While he seemed like a nice guy, after receiving the message I replied letting him know “Im not really looking into dating anyone at the time, but we can be friends”. I clearly wasn’t too uninterested because I still proceeded to give him my number & somehow over the next few weeks he wooed me w/ his “charm” & talked me into hanging out & going on a date.  Ever since that first date at Miyabis off of Harbison Blvd, the rest has been history. Just look at me now, months away from marrying my best friend. Guess the little saying isn’t so true after all, nice guys don’t always finish last:).

PS-Ladies, you better start checking them DMs, I sure am glad I did!

The Proposal

September 27th, 2018 (a freaking Thursday), a day that I thought was just a special day for Tim & I to finally reunite after not seeing each other in over a month since his recent move to Atlanta.

*PAUSE* Let's just back up to weeks prior to this day. About 4 weeks prior to be exact on one of our daily FaceTime calls, Tim tells me that he had just received an email from his previous manager in Rock Hill, about a young professionals event that he would be being recognized at on Thursday, September 27th at the rooftop of Merchant & Trade downtown. She had advised him, she knew he probably wouldn't be able to make it due to his recent move, but just wanted to let him know he would be being recognized. Well, ironically (so I thought), it worked out perfectly for him to attend considering Tim was coming in town that same day for us to leave to go to Vegas the following morning. After showing me the email, Tim tells me "well babe, you have to go with me as my plus one so gone ahead and find something to wear because I know you".

My immediate thoughts to myself at this random "coincidence" was could this be.....

"Nawwww"

1.) He knows I kind of want our close friends/family around for our proposal & there's no way he could/would get everyone Charlotte on a random THURSDAY.
2.) I just knew he wasn't going to propose until at least Spring 2019 bc we had been discussed a fall wedding and waiting at least a year in a half of being engaged.

3.)Not to mention, with me being the Nosey Nancy I am, I know I would've caught on by now from someone: my friends and family can't hold water (so I thought).

Fast Forward to The Day Of: I was too excited going to work: my last day before vacation, getting my hair done, & knowing I'd be seeing him within the next few hours, I was ecstatic. As we were valeting the car before heading into the event, I reminded him "Babe, don't forget your portfolio". (I had been helping him work on his speech for the last two weeks). As we are walking into the event, I decide I need to use the bathroom (what I didn't know at the time was clearly ruining their timing-WHOOPS, a girl had to go lol). Once we hop off the elevator, I instantly hear loud music & realize it's my song that I am always singing to Tim, Wale ft.Usher "Matrimony". Me: "Oh babe, this place is jamming, they playing my song!" Still being oblivious to what was really going on, the hosts proceed to escort us to the rooftop where the event was. I look at Tim, "Babe, this place is freaking packed!" As they open the doors all I see is bright lights, cameras and people that looked REALLLL familiar! It was at this very moment I knew, I HAD BEEN PLAYED! All of our closest friends & family, from near & far had managed to successfully keep a secret and surprise me with the greatest proposal I could have EVER asked for! The scenery, the cake, the slideshow, the LOVE in the room was nothing short of amazing. All I could do was cry in tears of joy. Saying YES to the man of my dreams was one of THE GREATEST moments of my life, but I have a feeling the day we say "I DO" will top it all:).
