We set our first scene at a karaoke night 7 years ago at a mutual friends birthday party in a lively wood fired pizza tavern. After some friendly introductions and chatting, Megan drifted to the bar and returned with a whiskey for Matt; it was the first time he had ever been offered an unsolicited bourbon. As with any good man, this was just the kindling needed to start our story.
Some time went by and the two of us happened to each other's company again with another mutual friend who wanted to have a special Thanksgiving dinner with just their friends. It was here where we really got to know each other beyond just the passive musings of a smoky, dark bar with the brightness of a home filled with friends. As the evening evolved it even came to light that Megan went out of here way to be there just because of Matt.
There were more get togethers and adventurous outings with some old friends and even new friends that we adopted from each other's pool. Eventually, our tastes in music converged and we joined each other for two concerts that were a major turning point for the foundation of our shared love and future relationship.
High in the Rocky Mountains on a camping trip, it was here that we knew that our bond was stronger than just the superficialities of fleeting attractions and decided to become an official couple. We celebrated with a trip to a hot springs which is now an ongoing tradition that reminds us of our continuing love and commitment.
As if by fate, just a few months after becoming "official" we both found ourselves in separate, but oddly coincidental, housing situations and both in need of new living arrangements. After many discussions of "is this too quick" "is this right for us" and all of the other questions people go through with the inevitable move-in scenario, we decided that it indeed was time to take the big leap. We moved in and eventually moved around the Denver area in that ultimate quest for "home."
...One Giant Leap For Our Future
As we like to say, "life happens" and we found ourselves in need of some career and scenery change. An opportunity for Megan to go back to school and for Matt to enter into a potentially lucrative career presented itself and we are definitely not ones to allow opportunity to pass by. So, we made our plans, said our goodbyes, and set off for Huntsville, Alabama into the unknown and what a journey it has been.
It was time enough to take the next step and without hesitation, opportunity presented itself and it was not squandered. Matt had the chance to bring Megan along on a work trip to Japan and it was here high in the mountains, at a hot springs, on a dark snowy night, on a magical bridge above a gentle river that we decided to be married.
Working diligently, we both have found our successes with our leap into the unknown. In May 2019, Megan graduated with Honors (Beta Beta Beta) with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Matt has built a career whose influence has traveled around the globe. This for us is the right time to demonstrate our love to each other yet again and reaffirm our commitment to each other.
