Flights

Summary

Puerto Vallarta (PVR) has a good international airport. You will need a valid passport! You do not need any other visas, etc.

Flight Searches

Flights to Vallarta from: Charlotte, DCNYCRaleigh , and Seattle

Flight Deals

We are tracking flights and will update guests if we see a deal come through.

Typical recommendations are to purchase tickets 2-8 months in advance for international flights.

It may make sense to consider arriving early, staying later, or waiting on a deal. Multicity flights through DC, Cancun, Mexico City are sometimes cheaper.

Getting Around Vallarta

Summary

It is cheap and easy to get around Puerto Vallarta.

Options

Travel to and from the Puerto Vallarta Airport

The Puerto Vallarta airport can be kind of hectic. Do not pay attention to the people trying to sell you something. There are 'authorized taxis' once you get to/near the parking area - we recommend finding and using this option. You can walk a bit away from the airport to the highway to get a cheaper taxi or Uber.

Uber & Taxis

Ubers and taxis are safe, inexpensive, and easy to find. We use both.

Buses

Buses are everywhere and they're cheap (10 pesos or about .50c). They are more difficult if you do not speak Spanish though.

Tip: buses have the name of destinations on the window.

Renting a Car

There are many rental car options around the airport. Rental cars are a good option if you want to explore nearby towns, but are probably not needed in Puerto Vallarta.

Things to Do Around Puerto Vallarta

Whale Watching

Whales will be swimming in the bay around the time of our wedding. You may see from the shore, or you can pay to join a boat.

Visit a Puerto Vallarta South Secluded beach

You have to take a scenic hike or a boat to get to the beaches on the south side of Vallarta. Beaches like Colomotis, Las Animas, Quimixto, and Yelapa. Take a bus or taxi to Boca de Tomatlan, then a boat or a walk. We live in this area and our wedding venue is on the way.

"El Malecon" Puerto Vallarta Boardwalk

The Malecon is 1.2 miles long stretch of dinning, music, sculptures, art and shopping on the beach. There is a lot to do day and night at the Malecon and it is worth a stroll.

Walk around the Los Muertos Pier

The Los Muertos Pier is a lovely destination for a walk. Near a lot of the action in Vallarta. You can also take boats from here to various places.

Explore the Romantic Zone and Downtown

Beautiful cobblestones streets, the famous Nuesta Señora de Guadalupe church, lots of great food and drink and shopping. Perfect for a walk to explore.

Visit the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Garden

World class botanical garden not far from Puerto Vallarta.

Surf

There is surf for all experience levels around Vallarta. We surf almost every day and can recommend some good spots.

Golf

There are quite a few golf courses in the area, mostly north of Puerto Vallarta.

Fish

There are many options to charter boats and and hop on fishing expeditions.

Visit Sayulita

Sayulita is a fun surfing town about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta and worth a visit or a stay.

Places to eat and drink in Puerto Vallarta

Los Muertos Brewing

Craft beer, great pizza, and a good deal in Puerto Vallarta.

Garden Vegetarian Buffet

Delicious and healthy vegetarian buffet.

Tacos de Pastor

Delicious rotisserie meat tacos that are served all over Mexico.

Tortas Ahogadas

Guadalajara's signature torta at an authentic local place. Muy rico.

La Bodeguita Del Medio

Live Cuban music, along with Cuban food and mojitos. The spot for salsa dancing.

"Los Robles" Taco stand

Birria Taco place the locals go to.

Exploring Bahia Banderas

Puerto Vallarta is situated in the middle of a huge bay. If you are arriving before or staying after the wedding, we recommend exploring the area around Puerto Vallarta.

Quimixto, Yelapa and the South Bay
We live in the south bay of Vallarta, in Quimixto. There are homes for rent on Airbnb here, and a yoga resort. If you want to visit us here before or after the wedding, let us know and we can try to find you the perfect place. Getting here requires a bus or taxi to Boca de Tomatlan, and a boat trip.

Punta de Mita, Sayulita, and the North Bay
We met in Sayulita and love the small towns nearby. From luxury hotels in Punta de Mita to casitas in Sayulita, there are a lot of things to see and places to stay in these bustling surf towns.
