How to get there

Flights

Most international flights to Colombia will arrive in Bogota (the capital). See the Cities tab for more info. There are however a few international flights that go direct to Cartagena de Indias (where the events will take place).
From Bogota there are many regular flights to Cartagena. Local airlines that run these services include Avianca and Latam.

Cities

Bogota is the capital of the country and offers lots of activities. If you’d like to spend a couple days here before or after the wedding you might consider visiting: Monserrate, La Candelaria (the old town), the Gold Museum, the Botero Museum, the Salt Cathedral, or Guatavita (a nearby town).

Keep in mind that Bogota’s altitude is 2600m, so it’s not unusual to experience some altitude sickness (don’t worry, you will feel better the next day, and the problem doesn’t exist in Cartagena!)

Cartagena de Indias is where all the events will take place. The city is on the Colombia’s Caribbean coast and offers a tropical climate. If you join us, don't miss the chance to visit the Walled City (the old town), Castillo de San Felipe, enjoy the beach or even plan for a day (or more) in Playa Blanca or Baru.

Just a short flight away is Santa Marta (another Caribbean coastal city), which is very close to a beautiful natural park, Parque Tayrona, which features palm-shaded coves, coastal lagoons and verdant rainforest.

Medellin - due to its climate, it is known as the ‘city of eternal spring’. It offers lovely mountain views (Guatape), several parks and squares (Botanical Park, Plaza Botero, Explora Park) as well as a wide variety of bars/restaurants (El Poblado square).

If you are more into nature and wildlife, then of course Amazonia or La Guajira are great choices to consider!
In general, we would recommend organising any trips through a travel agency. Some local reputable agencies include: Falabella, Despegar, and Aviatur.

Don't forget to check our packing tips on the What to bring tab and the useful tips to prepare for your trip in the Travel requirements section.

If you’re unsure about anything at all, or just want some more specific recommendations, just get in touch!

What to bring

Pack your bag

As Bogota (the capital) has a fairly mild climate, we recommend bringing jeans, a sweater and a jacket.
The wedding itself takes place in Cartagena, which has a tropical climate. You’ll need t-shirts, shorts, sandals, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a swimsuit, hat, and a beach towel.

Oh! The most important thing, don’t forget your passport, party attire (see event details for more) and dancing shoes!

Where to Stay

Hotels & Rentals

The event will take place within the "walled city" in Cartagena.

The rooms of the venue have been reserved for family members (as there is a limited number of rooms). However, here is a list of some hotels that are walking distance (5 min) from the hotel, all located in the Walled City part of the old town: AlfizHotel NHCasa PestaguaDelirioMasayaCasa ClaverLa FactoriaCasa Cordoba, El Marques.

However, if you want to be in front of the beach, it’s a bit further from the venue (a 10 min drive). We’d recommend the following hotels: DubaiCapillaMadissonMillenniumHamptonAlmiranteIntercontinental. If you’re taking cabs to get around it’s important to only use licensed, official taxis, easily identifiable by their bright yellow paintjob! Check out the Transportation Section.

If you prefer a house or apartment rental, you could contact our concierge (TwoTravel)  at reservations@two.travel. Make sure you make reference to us (Lucille and David). They can help you with hotel blocks (5+ bedrooms), Villa/houses rentals (3+ bedrooms) as well as apartments.

Travel Requirements

Don't miss out!

Entry requirements

Most nationalities do not need a tourist visa to gain entry to Colombia, but just to be sure, here’s an official link where you can check (Visa Requirement).

Vaccinations

Although there are no compulsory vaccinations to gain entry, it is recommended to be vaccinated against yellow fever (needed to visit the Tayrona National Park), Hepatitis A and Typhoid.

Currency

The Colombian Peso is the local currency. Although cards are accepted in most places, carrying some cash might be useful.

Some other useful general info for visiting Colombia is available here.

Transportation

What is the easiest way to get around Cartagena?

If you are staying within the Walled City, everything is walking distance! We encourage you to walk and explore the city.

Outside the "walled city", the taxi service is easy to access. We recommend using the company "Taxi Taxi" though their mobile application or telephone number: +57 304-555-6000.
A ride from the airport into the "walled city" is approximately COP 25.000 ($6).
If you are going to use a service on the road, ask first how much the service will cost.

However, if you prefer the comfort of a car ride, then we suggest using Uber. Make sure to download the UBER app and link it to a credit card with no foreign transaction fees prior to travel.
