Welcome

×

So many of you have never had the chance to meet, even though we've been building a wonderful life together for years. We'd love to bring everyone together for a [Covid-sensitive] throwdown, celebrate and just for a moment... REJOICE in the name of love. The entire event will be OUTDOORS - under shelter.

Getting Here

Fly / Drive / Wine

The wedding will be held on Johns Island, just outside of Charleston. For those of you flying in, you'll want to use the Charleston airport (CHS). The CHS airport is approximately 35 miles from Kiawah & Seabrook Island, where we recommend you stay for your visit. The rental car facilities are right at the airport and couldn't be easier to use. If you call an Uber or a Lyft, they pick you up outside of baggage in the outermost lane.

If you rent a car and get there in the dark be mindful it is a very dark two lane road, like Scooby Doo or Clue dark, so be careful if you have trouble seeing at night. Also the deer out there are bountiful and clearly believe in an after life. There are restaurants, grocery stores and shops out on the islands so don't go all Gilligan in your head.

If you're local, well, you know what to do.

Get Out There

Island Life

Depending on how you decide to spend the weekend, there is so much to do in Charleston. Johns Island is about a 40min drive from downtown Charleston, so wedding festivities will be Johns Island-Kiawah-Seabrook-centric. See below for things we love to do "in town" (in downtown Charleston).

If you stay at the Sanctuary, on Kiawah, you will have access to the Ocean Course, where this year's PGA Championship was held. The Cougar and Turtle Courses are also incredible. Contact the resort for tee-times.

If you rent a condo/house on Seabrook you'll have access to the all of the amenities of the island. Pool/Beach/Golf.

Charter a deep sea fishing tour out of Bohicket Marina.

If you stay at the Andell Inn you will have access to the hotel's amenities and some of the golf courses. Please check their website as they add access every now and again.

Eat / Drink

Kiawah / Seabrook / John's Island

Freshfields Village Kiawah / Seabrook

This village is for the civilized consumer- their satellite for the islands (Kiawah and Seabrook). Shops, Salons and Food. This will be a great hub for groceries and easy dining while staying out this way. There is a wine bar, mexican spot and lots of things out here to calm your nerves, or get on them - depending on you.

Johns Island

Wild Olive  The Obstinate Daughter's older sister. Chef Jacques Larson loves to drink a PBR and cook some of the best EYEtalian food in the world. Have at it.

Tomato Shed  It's a market, it's a cafe, it's the swiss army knife of the Lowcountry. Go here and get food and eat there or take it home. Get stone crab claws to take and make at home. Tomato Pie, yes please.

Speaking of, Pie ( my aunt) go here!!!!!

Seanachai  A little Irish pub in a strip mall that actually feels like a real Irish pub not in a strip mall.

Chucktown In Town and Suchtown

Downtown & The Beaches

Downtown

Go downtown if you have never been. Go downtown close to the Battery. Park your car. Walk, Walk, Walk and go down all the small streets and alleys. Get lost, that's why GPS exists.

If you get hungry or "thirsty" we love these downtown spots:

G&M Fast & French Best deal in town. Communal seating but not really. Outdoor seating, too. Wine and Lunch special is $13. And the best damn coffee you ever did have. Ye haw! It's French.

167 Raw - Seafood. Tacos. Sushi. Frozen drinks. Raw Bar. There's usually a wait so make a rez, or put your name on the list and go chill across the street at Bin 152 and have a glass of wine (or 3).

Basic Kitchen Serene, light-filled space for dishes featuring local produce & whole grains, plus Sunday brunch. They have an outdoor patio and the most amazing buffalo cauliflower ever- if you've ever had buffalo cauliflower.

Thoroughbred Club This lounge is inside a classic Charleston Hotel. It's a piano bar with low lighting and loungy seating. It's the best at Christmas time, but any time it's a great spot for a drink. Charleston Grill, also in the hotel, is fine dining with an incredible chef if you want to splurge.

Little Jack's  Best burger in town. Really cool environment. Not amazing for big groups or kids. (Unless your kids know how to be cool). Sweet little spot with a raw bar and tasty salads and such. Perfect for a Sunday bloody mary and some grub. Upper King.

Santi's  Mexican food. This is like home away from home. Bring the kids, your grandma, your dog — eat cheese dip and mama's soup or just a taco or enchiladas verde. Just don't drink a pitcher of margaritas to yourself or you'll end up arguing with a tow truck driver in a vacant lot down by a cemetery..... just don't do it.

Dewberry Hotel - Citrus Club Rooftop Bar is a swanky joint 8 stories up with 360 views of downtown Charleston and slick, delicious cocktails.

Sullivans / Folly / IOP

There are 3 main beaches in Charleston. Sullivan's, IOP and Folly. Sullivan's is where we hang out most. It's idyllic with pale grasses blowing in the breeze and gorgeous houses along the coastline. One of our favorite spots to eat (and where we got engaged) is Obstinate Daughter . It's Italian at the beach. Amazing chef. Downstairs is Beard Cat's, with the best gelato in town. For those of you with kids, there's a playground across the street, plus you're a block from the beach.

Folly is more of a bohemian surf beach. Very chill vibe. Go for a walk, look for shells, grab brunch at Lost Dog Cafe. Also love Chico Feo for a red stripe and local beach vibes.

Unique Spots

Off the Beaten Path

There are so many things to do on Kiawah and Seabrook. Swim in a pool, swim in the ocean, play tennis, flip cup, or golf the world class links. If you have a second or need to go on a short drive for a deep breath, go see this tree. It is like the Low Country version of a Sequoyah, the Angel Oak.

Botany Bay This spot is a beautiful - insane boneyard beach. Shells are everywhere, you can't take them off the beach but when the waves crash you can hear them bodysurfing kind of like surfing wind chimes.

Where to Stay

Hotels, Inns & Air BnB

The wedding will take place on Bohicket Creek at our friend's home on Johns Island. Johns Island is about 45 minutes from downtown Charleston. We suggest (if you're coming in from out of town) finding a spot to land out near the beach on Kiawah or Seabrook Island. There are plenty of vacation rentals, so hook up with family or friends or find your own little retreat!

If you have never been to Charleston and want to extend your weekend, the city is filled with history, beautiful sights to see, places to go and wonderful food to eat.

The Sanctuary at Kiawah

The total package.

Andell Inn

Splendor in the marsh grass.

Air BnB

Sometimes it takes a village, or your own place. Check out Seabrook Island in addition to Kiawah.

VRBO

Seabrook is a great spot for it all. Golf, pools, tennis, beaches, biking = families. HOUSES. CONDOS.

Downtown

Courtyard Marriott Downtown Waterfront

If you would rather stay downtown, this Marrriott is a great hotel- on the Ashley River and is only about 30 minutes away from Johns Island.
