Flying into Costa Rica

Flight Information

Since we have family and friends coming from all over, we'll just give you a brief rundown of the essential travel info here.

Costa Rica has two airports - one in San Jose (SJO; Juan Santamaria) and one in Liberia (LIB; Daniel Oduber). The airport to fly into for our wedding is the San Jose (SJO) airport. There are quite a few major airlines that fly to San Jose, Costa Rica, including JetBlue, American Airlines, Delta, Copa, United, Spirit, etc, and i'ts almost always possible to find a nonstop or 1-stop flight. Airlines, such as Southwest, also fly to Costa Rica but have not yet released their flight schedule for March 2020.

If you want to take part in all of the festivities, I would recommend flying into Costa Rica on Thursday, 3/12/2020 and flying back to the states on Tuesday 3/17/2020. We will be providing at least one airport shuttle to/from Esterillos Este on those dates for our guests. The SJO airport is about a 90 minute drive from Esterillos Este. For more information on all of the events we have planned, check out the 'EVENTS' tab above.

Please let Rivkah (860-966-0229; rivkah.rosen@gmail.com) or Korey (860-305-0610; korey.oconnor16@gmail.com) know when you book your flights so that we can start to arrange transportation and help you all with accommodations and logistics as needed!

Getting Around in Costa Rica

Car Rentals

Renting a car is cheap in Costa Rica (starting at ~$10/day). That being said, some of the roads are a bit rough, so if you do plan to rent a car, I would definitely recommend a mid-size SUV or bigger for comfort on the rougher dirt roads.

I would recommend renting a car if you plan to do any exploring on your own or if you're concerned about having transportation back and forth from the villas (where the wedding and events will be held) to your hotel, depending on where you stay.

Korey and I are happy to discuss the rental car option further with all of you, and our wedding planner Chloe is also very knowledgeable about the area and can help with this type of planning too. Just let us know if you'd like her contact info!

If you would prefer not to rent a car, there are taxi and shuttle services readily available. If you'd prefer to go this route, just let us know, and we'll make sure that you're all set with transportation while you're there!

Travel Documents

Yup, You Need a Passport

Please doublecheck your passport and/or travel documents and make sure that they are not expiring within the next 6-7 months. If they are, and you're planning to come to Costa Rica, it's best to renew the necessary documents as soon as possible.

If you do not have a passport and you want to come to Costa Rica, we highly recommend starting the application process as soon as possible. Generally, the passport application process takes 4-6 weeks, but if there are any unforeseen issues, it could take a bit longer. We want to avoid anyone having to pay unnecessary expediting fees!

The best place to start the application process is with the US postal service. They have all of the materials you need and can help keep the process going smoothly.
