Oak Glen
Oak Glen is a quaint and lovely apple orchard town about 90 minutes east of Los Angeles. We were immediately charmed by its beautiful trees and cute shops at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains. We hope you will be too!
If you are flying in from out of town, you'll want to fly into LAX, Burbank Airport (BUR), or Ontario International Airport (ONT). And as any Angeleno will tell you, choosing between LAX and Burbank is no choice at all -- CHOOSE BURBANK! It's much smaller, more convenient, and is almost pleasant.
There is no public transportation to Oak Glen, so you will need to rent a car or carpool.
Oak Glen itself does not offer much accommodation, but the nearby mountain towns of Forest Falls and Angeles Oaks offer a selection of cute Airbnb cabins for your stay, ranging from rustic to modern. Make sure to snatch one up before they're gone! Please note that both towns are about a 25 minute drive up the mountain on winding roads, so if you are not comfortable with mountain driving we recommend staying in Redlands, Beaumont or Banning.
For those who would prefer to stay in a hotel, we recommend Springhill Suites by Marriott or Ayres Hotel, both in Redlands. These are about a 25-30 minute drive west of Oak Glen.
Hotels can also be found in Beaumont or Banning, about a 25-30 minute drive to the south.
There are pie shops, candy shops, a huge alpine slide, and possibly even some axe throwing...? Stay tuned -- details to come!
For our out-of-town guests: if you drove out to Oak Glen, you're more than half-way to Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park -- so why not tack on a roadtrip to these iconic destinations while you're at it? And of course, if you stay in the Los Angeles area, May is a lovely month to visit Disneyland, take a hike in Griffith Park, day-trip up to Santa Barbara (hot tip: take the train!), tour a movie studio, or visit the beach.
