Kelly & Nick
September 4, 2021
It is a surprise to no one that the story started on a ski mountain. Kelly had been part of a ski-house share in 2018 and, unknown to Kelly, one of Nick's childhood friends (Ben Cyr!) was also a member of the ski share. Nick had just wrapped up his audit staff travel program with GE. He was free to ski and enjoy life back in the northeast which led him to Kelly.
First, Ben introduced them and they hit it off! Everyone had just skied all day, there was a live band apres ski, so - as Nick would say - things were looking up! (Thanks Liz for making sure Kelly made it on time!) Then of course, the other shoe dropped. The ski-house landlord hit Nick's car after denying access to Olympics streaming. We should have known then it was going to be a.. bumpy.. start.
The first real date was in Chester, VT at the finest local establishment, the MacLaomainn's Scottish Pub. Nick had haggis, Kelly had some sort of cheese and onion soup. At least it was great company!
The next day, they went skiing at Okemo with Nick's family (thank you to Paul, Jeanne, Andrew & Sophia!). It was a great day, and very natural to hang with a good portion of the Ferruolo crew. If you didn't know, Nick is an excellent skier. However, as every skier knows, you should never, EVER, say "last run" out loud - its a tried and true jinx. So on the actual last run of the day, they head down a trail with some large jumps and Nick was determined to impress. In short, Nick went big.. and fell hard, which begins the saga of the torn ACL.
Even though Nick had torn his ACL, he still came to visit Kelly often both in Norwalk and in NYC. Once he had surgery, it was Kelly's turn to visit Vernon, CT. Nick was posted up and being very brave on his parents couch under the close eye of Sue and Greg. Naturally, most people meet their future husband's parents while he is laid up, on painkillers, on their couch, after 1 month, right?
Needless to say, it went swimmingly and then began the rest of the story! Nick moved to NYC. Lots of Broadway shows, family visits to the lake, beach, and pond, and train rides later, they moved in together in South Norwalk, May 2019. Luckily, with good timing and faith in their path, they were able to get used to living together prior to a global pandemic where they would, like most people, spend 24 hours a day together, watching the neighbors out the window. They would be remiss to not mention Oscar, the injured cat on a diet, to liven it all up.
Early in quarantine, they had started a lunchtime routine of walks around the neighborhood to shake a bit of the cabin fever. Come November 5, 2020 this was a well-established midday activity. This walk, in particular, had Kelly mostly focused on the upcoming kickball playoff game that night. At the park outside of their apartment, Nick was definitely not thinking about kickball.
With Oscar creeping from the window, Nick got down on one knee, presented the most sparkly diamond ring and asked Kelly to marry him. It was perfect and of course she said yes!
So that is our story in brief! If you want more, unedited, details, please feel free to ask family and friends who were there along the road (think ND football and Stamford kickball games, weddings, ski trips...). Much gratitude to each and every one of you who helped us navigate the path towards partnership and love.
Kelly was the first person that Meredith met at RPI and after some growing pains, they became close friends and roommates, ultimately leading to Kelly and Meredith partaking in many shenanigans together.
Kelly and Meredith are the “active types”, some might say at the wrong times. For example, they decided to join a softball league without knowing how to play (think facing the wrong way, forgetting its non-contact, and general clumsiness...). Originally, a lot of their running came from pre-Uber, anti-taxi, post-night out activities. Who knew this would lead from 5ks to casually committing to marathons to eventually Meredith hugely investing time and resources to becoming an ironman?
Meredith and her husband Luke got to know Nick better at their first Ironman and did Kelly forget to mention that he was going to have to get up at 4am to watch the race? They are glad he did as this started their friendship and are very excited to be part of their knot tying journey!
(Meredith, Luke and their daughter Raegan are also the engagement photographers!)
Maggie is Kelly's youngest sister and currently lives in Boston, MA with her cat Muninn. Maggie is a reader of pretty much any genre, appreciates a good feel for a fabric and is focused on learning how to see the world through many different lenses.
Maggie and her sisters have spent a lot of time together watching Mystery Theater 3000, baking, and having adventures in PA. She is excited to have Nick along to experience all the weirdness now too!
In case you're still not sure who she is, Maggie will be the person you'll see stopped to look at that thing over there.
(Maggie is also the designer of all of the stationery for the wedding!)
JP and Nick were next door neighbors their freshman year at Notre Dame. They quickly forged a group of friends with some others on the floor and the floor above, bonding over FIFA, sports, staying up late, and debates. JP loves a good discussion, and his passion for things others may find trivial can be heard for miles. JP and Nick were roommates for the rest of their time at ND.
JP lives in Chicago, IL not far from his hometown of Naperville and is getting married to Steph Lazar this coming October. A recovering cowboys fan, he also enjoys golfing, Settler's of Catan, and organizing many Catholic Sports and Social events at his local church, St. Al's.
Peter and Nick met in third grade in Mrs. Sheridan's class. From there they've done quite a lot together including little league, middle school, lacrosse, graduation, and attending patriots games. Always up to play any game in the yard, on the rink, or the field, Peter is the guy to have on your team.
Peter currently lives in Bridgewater, MA with his wife Kellie. He enjoys all Boston sports, Taylor Swift, and catching up with the high school crew at the Vernon bowling alley.
Dan and Kate met in 1982, in Portland, OR and wed in their backyard on September 8, 1984. Dan and Kate now live in upstate NY. Dan is a retired computer network professional. You can find him working on the house, watching SciFi, and running down the road. Kelly learned from her dad to tackle the big things one step at a time. But before you even ask, yes, he does need a hand for that! Kate is a house chef for a local sorority (Kelly and several other guests' in fact!). She's creative in the kitchen and loves tending to the garden. From her mom, Kelly learned that it is important to have a big heart and put your family first, even if they're-a-makin-ya-crazy!
They are so happy that Nick and Kelly will be sharing their lives together with joy, bad jokes and love!
