Leona and I are going on 30 years of friendship and counting! We met in 7th / 8th grade and became best friends. She was actually shorter than me at the time but that didn’t last long! We’ve grown up together and have experienced many different seasons of life. There are times that I know I could not have gotten through without her. Our bond is unique and special. She’s taught me that you don’t need to have the same blood to be family. We are more like sisters than friends. We're opposites but a perfect combination at the same time. She’s a lot like Monica and I’m more of a Racheal. Once she and I get started laughing, it takes us a good 10 minutes to stop and that’s when it’s barely funny! She’s loving and nurturing - a caregiver to her soul. She radiates beauty and her electric smile lights up any room. Regardless of the years or distance apart, when we see each other again, we pick up right where we left off. She's part of my identity. I'm beyond blessed to have her in my life.
I first met Tyson my sophomore year of High school. We had a mutual love of basketball, music, and the east coast. I’d spend weekends at his house playing ball, listening to new jack swing, and scarfing down quesadillas made with Velveta cheese and salami! We remained friends after high school, but lost touch for a few years in our 20’s. Then, while me and Travis were waiting in line at the Crest Theater for the Black Crowes concert, I heard a familiar voice call my name. I turned around and it was Tyson!
No matter what direction our lives took us, we always stayed in touch one way or another.
Tyson is honest and genuine, and has remained a true friend for over 20 years. I’m grateful for his friendship!
I met Mark during a season of elementary basketball for our two boys. They played on many teams together over the years which gave us a chance to really get to know each other. We bonded over sports, our crazy sense of humor and dad life. One thing I love about Mark is how much he encourages not only his own kids, but mine as well. He’s always checking in to see how my boys are doing and supporting them in everything they do. I also had the opportunity to get to know Mark’s wife, Renee. I never would have imagined that Renee would be a key connection to my future wife! Now, one of our favorite things to do is spend time with the two of them, enjoying great food, drinks and lots of laughter!
Pastor Dan Katches is the lead Pastor at Covenant Church Paso. He's lived in Paso Robles, CA, with his wife, Bonnie, for the past 26 years. He has 6 kids and 1 grandchild. In his college years he was quite the athlete! He's still ranked as San Jose State's Men's Track and Field All-Time Top 10 Discus thrower. In his spare time he enjoys coaching young throwers, including two of his protégé college kids.
To me, he's Uncle Danny! When Justin and I got engaged, there was no question as to who we wanted to marry us. I have so much love and respect for this wonderful man. Last summer he married my son and daughter-in-law and now he gets to marry us!
