Things to Do in Old City & Philadelphia

We love this City and hope you do too! Here’s some suggestions for things to do and places to see while you’re here. These are just a few of our favorites - you really can’t go wrong with many of the bars, restaurants, and museums you will pass while in town.

Old City Walking Tour: You are surrounded by history in Old City. Try a self-guided walking tour to check it out at your own pace. In addition to some historical spots, you will pass plenty of bars & restaurants along the way. https://www.gpsmycity.com/tours/old-city-walking-tour-3318.html

Zahav: Amazing, check it, AMAZING hummus. One of the top-rated restaurants in the country. Reservations are unrealistic but stop in and see if you can get a seat at the bar. They may be full but it’s worth the ask.  237 St James Pl, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Lucha Cartel: Awesome margaritas, fun atmosphere, right in the heart of Old City. 207 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Sassafras: Ben & Jess’s first date spot. To actually re-create the evening, you would drink pumpkin beers while watching Ryan Howard blow out his Achilles in the final play of the game as the Phillies gave up the NLDS to the Cardinals in 2011.  48 S 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

City Tavern: Looking for a touristy time? The servers here are dressed in colonial garb – do we need to say anything else? We recommend checking out the colonial sampler.  138 S 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Bookbinders: Very cool, old-fashioned setting with great food and drinks.  125 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Han Dynasty: Not your average Chinese food, set in a big old bank with high ceilings and cool decor. 123 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA

Cuba Libre: Perfect mojitos, cool Cuban setting.  10 S 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Headhouse Square: Walk through this area if you’re heading to Jim’s or the South Street area. Check out Twisted Tail for a good bourbon drink (personal favorite of the bride and groom, particularly the shuffleboard/dart room upstairs), Pizzeria Stella for a solid pizza and wine, or Xo Chitl for your Mexican/tequila dreams. Twisted Tail Address: 509 S 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19147

Spruce Street Harbor Park: Awesome waterfront park. Great for any combination of eating, drinking, and hanging out. You can’t go wrong here, especially if the weather is good.  301 S Christopher Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Independence Beer Garden: Large outdoor beer garden with games, across from the Liberty Bell. 100 S Independence Mall W, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Curtis Center: Ben’s favorite piece of art in the city of brotherly love is the Tiffany glass mural (“The Dream Garden”) located in the 6th St. lobby of this building. Fun fact: this was commissioned by Cyrus Curtis, whose estate in Wyncote is now our wedding venue!  601 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Museum of American Revolution: History Buff? You may want to find some time to spend in this Museum.  101 S 3rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Other Philly Destinations: We focused on our favorite spots in and around Old City, but they’re really just a handful of the many great things can you do and see in the City. If you have some extra time on your hands, some other popular destinations include the following. Keep in mind the Rock and Roll Marathon has activities the morning of Sunday 9/15 so there may be some road closures in the region.
Philadelphia Museum of Art (perhaps better known as “the Rocky stairs”)
Wissahickon Park has plenty of trails for an early morning hike
Rittenhouse Square and the shopping district
The Italian Market
