INTERNATIONAL GUESTS

We recommend flying into the Calgary International Airport (YYC). It is roughly a three-hour drive from Calgary to Fernie. The good news is that the views are beautiful along the way! We recommend coordinating flights if possible so people can convoy to the lodge together. Jen and Rob are happy to help arrange carpools so please let us know if you are looking for someone to hitch a ride with!

BIKING

Fernie is a meca for mountain biking. If you have a bike or want to try and ride down a mountain for the first time, Fernie is the place to do it. It is also a very bike friendly town in general and a good way to get around and see the sights!

HIKING

It is our favourite time of the year to hike and in Fernie you are surrounded by the mountains! Island Lake Lodge has tons of hiking trails, from easy to advanced, right off the property so we highly recommend taking advantage of this. Make sure to bring some footwear that is suitable for hiking and of course your selfie stick.

FLY FISHING

If you are an avid fly fisher or looking to try it out you should consider trying your luck in the Elk River. It is world famous for its bull, rainbow and cut throat trout. The river can be tricky to know where to go so we suggest some research leading up to it or contact one of the many local guiding shops. These shops can offer fully guided day trips that are a blast.

DOWNTOWN, FERNIE

The Town of Fernie has a very cute and vibrant downtown. You will be sure to find something tasty to eat, some trendy shops to look in, and a cup of coffee to stay warm with. Some of our favourites include: Big Bang Bagel, Nevados, Curry Bowl, Fernie Brewing Co., Lunchbox and Yamagoya Sushi.
