Studio 333
The venue -- and a warning about weather!

Located a block north of Sausalito’s picturesque shoreline, Studio 333 is an art gallery and community work space during the week and an event venue on the weekends.

The wedding ceremony and dinner will take place on the outdoor patio, with the rest of the night’s activities taking place inside the gallery, where there’s a full dance floor and two lounges.

Also it’s worth noting that though it’s often called “sunny California,” the weather here in April can be really unpredictable — especially near the water, and especially at night. We’d advise you to bring at least a sweater, wrap, or light coat. It could potentially be as low as the ‘50s with a breeze, which we know will feel like winter to our family from Texas! If that happens, we’ll also have as many heat lamps as necessary to keep everyone comfortable.

A few notes on how to get here

Sausalito is the first place you’ll meet once you cross the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. It's little seaside town that attracts a lot of tourists from all over Northern California and the world.

It has art galleries and restaurants, ice cream parlors and coffee shops. It also puts you close to some other destinations in Marin County, like Muir Woods, Mount Tamalpais, Stinson Beach, and Mill Valley, where Jenée grew up.

If you haven’t been to San Francisco and want to see the sights there, it could work to stay there and drive to Sausalito for the wedding. From most of the popular destinations in San Francisco to the wedding venue, it’s about a half-hour drive.

If you would rather not rent a car and want to stay in Sausalito, this best option would be to fly into the San Francisco Airport (SFO) and take the Marin Airporter shuttle (which runs every hour) to the Spencer Drive or Manzanita stop ($20 each way for adults and free for children under 12. No need to make a reservation — just pay with card or cash when you get on). The bus driver will offer to call a taxi for you that will meet you at the stop and take you to your hotel.

If you stay anywhere in Sausalito, you should be able to walk or use short Uber (update: Lyft, because you've probably deleted Uber) trips to get anywhere you need to go.

A few notes about hotels

There are three nice hotels right in downtown Sausalito (near the water) within walking distance to the venue that we recommend:

Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa, 801 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA 94965.

Hotel Sausalito, 16 El Portal, Sausalito, CA 94965.

The Gables Inn, 62 Princess St, CA 94965.

A short drive away (about 10-20 minutes) and at a slightly cheaper rate, are two other hotels we recommend:

Holiday Inn Express, 160 Shoreline Highway, Mill Valley, CA.

Embassy Suites Hotel San Rafael-Marin County Conference Center, 101 McInnis Parkway, San Rafael, CA

There are plenty of great hotel options in San Francisco, which is only about 15 minutes away. Just keep in mind that traffic can be a big issue on weekends, as tourists make their way back and forth across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Finally, home-sharing sites like Airbnb and VRBO have houses, condos, and houseboats available in Sausalito for the weekend. Many of the listings will have say they have 30-night minimums for legal reasons, but word on the street is that the owners will probably make exceptions to that if you reach out and ask.

We'd suggest treading carefully with short-term rentals in San Francisco, as the city is currently in litigation with Airbnb.

Bridesmaids
Alicia LaChapelle-Friday
Alicia LaChapelle-Friday
Bridesmaid
Alicia was my first friend at Howard. We met in the elevator on the way to chapel, and she will tell you all about the hemp overalls and cowrie shell necklace that I thought constituted appropriate church attire. Also: Her husband Jimmy and Joel played high school football against each other in Houston.
Hana Watkins
Hana Watkins
Co-Maid of Honor
Hana holds the record for most happy hours and pictures on social media with me. Which is probably why Facebook once told us we were soulmates (sorry, Joel).

Sabrina has an awesome job at Facebook but pretty much refuses to use Facebook because she's too busy traveling, going to see live music, and actually enjoying life -- I want to be like her when I grow up.

Katherine has developed a Minnesota accent after many years there, but she's still the biggest advocate of the California lifestyle -- in particular, hiking and burritos -- you will ever meet.
Thea Alexander
Thea Alexander
Bridesmaid
Thea and I have gotten many, many years of enjoyment out of saying yes to people who ask if we're sisters. She will readily admit that she's the mean one and I'm the nice one. She wins in other areas but we're not talking about them because this is MY wedding.
Danielle Allison

Danielle and I got through law school together -- including a Boston blizzard during which we were snowed in and survived on pork chops and cinnamon rolls.

He's been certified by the State of California just to perform our ceremony. Thank you, Mark!
