Cenote Calavera

Details

For those looking for a retreat from the resort, we're planning a trip over to one of the many magical cenotes that Tulum has to offer. Cenotes are large sinkholes or caves, usually found in sedimentary limestone rock, that have filled with cool, clear groundwater and rainwater over time. They are abundant in the Yucatan peninsula and provide a great atmosphere to relax or explore.

UPDATES:

We will be going to the Cenote Calavera. Entrance fee is 250 MXN/pp, please bring cash! This is a 20 minute drive from Dreams.

For those staying at Dreams, please meet us at 1:45pm in the front lobby, we will have shuttles coordinated, and we can split up payment once we get there.

For those not staying at Dreams, we’ll see you there at 2pm!

Travel Notes

Tips for Getting to / Around Tulum

Tulum is an old Mayan city, now a Caribbean beach town on the Yucatan peninsula.

Tulum is divided into two main areas, Tulum “town” and the beach/hotel Zone. Tulum town is different from the beach area with local flavor, filled with authentic taco stands, souvenir shops, and lush Airbnbs near the jungle, offering a more budget-friendly vibe in a rustic setting. The beach area is a stretch of beautiful coastline, top tier restaurants and hotels. Both areas have tons of great restaurants, bars and boutiques.

We will lay out a few methods to get to Tulum and back home below!

Flights

Cancun International Airport (CUN)

Cancun - Chetumal Km 22, 77565 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico

The closest airport to Tulum is Cancun (CUN), which is approximately 80 miles away and a 1.5 hour drive south.

Google flights is a great tool, offering flexibility to find affordable flights based on your schedule. The "Track Prices" feature can help you determine if its the right time to buy. Typically, the best price on flights to Cancun can be found ~ 3-4 months before.

Transportation

Shuttle

We can help arrange for a shuttle for you from the airport and resort with others who may have similar arrival/departure times. When you have booked your flight, please let us know of the details as soon as you can so we can coordinate.

We’ve partnered with a great company Happy Shuttle Cancun. You can add waters, beers, snacks with your 90 min trip while booking. Use CODE: WED1221AM for $10 OFF at checkout!

Rental Car

Renting a car will be the easiest method of transportation to explore all that the Yucatán has to offer. We highly recommend groups of friends to split a few rental cars to get around.

Taxi / Bike

You can find affordable bicycle rentals all over town or at the beach. They range from 100-150 pesos ($5-7 per day) and are the easiest way to zip around town and explore. We do not recommend biking to the wedding venue (unless you like struggling).

Taxis are readily accessible but are cash only.

Tulum Town is about a 15-20 minute bike ride to the beach or a short cab ride (200 - 250 pesos/ $10-12).

Accommodations

Dreams Tulum

We have a minimum nights requirement for the wedding, so we would request that if possible, our guests stay at the resort.

All bookings are all-inclusive (food, drink, access to resort amenities, etc.)

Rooms must be booked by 7/12/22 to apply these lower rates to your reservation.

Rooms can be cancelled 31 days prior to check-in without penalty.

Adjust the travel dates to your desired timeframe. We will be arriving on Wednesday, November 8th and checking out on Tuesday, November 15th to ensure that everything is properly set up. Events will be going on from Friday through Sunday.

The resort will charge you for the first night at the time of booking and for the remaining amount 30 days prior to check-in. The remaining amount will be charged automatically to the same credit card used at the time of booking, which you will need to present at check in along with an ID.

***DO NOT BOOK YOUR STAY AT DREAMS TULUM RESORT & SPA ON YOUR OWN***

If you decide to stay at another hotel, you will have to pay a half day pass to attend the wedding (approx. $66 per person).  It is not required for you to stay at the hotel, but for ease and simplicity, it would make sense to be here for at least two nights.

Accommodations

AirBnB / Hotels

Airbnb offers a wide selection of beautiful, and very affordable homes and apartment rentals in Tulum.

Most Airbnb options are new and include pools/concierge to help organize travel. Make sure you choose an airbnb that is close to the main highway 15. You can check this on the map on the condo listing page under "location." You do not want to stay deep in the condo complex as the drive to the beach will take longer and cabs are hard to come by.

Aldea Zama is a neighborhood in the jungle with great accommodations and is generally more affordable. For a more authentic experience, you can stay in Tulum town near the town center. For a more luxurious stay, you should stay on the resort strip by the beach which will have several options.

FAQs
FAQs
When do I need to RSVP by?

The sooner the better! We are keeping the wedding relatively small, so if you are certain that you won't be able to attend, please let us know so we can extend invites to others. Our strong preference would be for people to let us know within 6 months of the ceremony.

What travel documents will I need to travel to Mexico?

You will need a passport that is valid for at least six months past the date you arrive. You should also bring a valid driver’s license or state issued document. Please make sure all your IDs are up to date!

What are the COVID-19 travel requirements in place?

* Please keep in mind that things may change at any time. We will update this on a frequent basis to keep everyone informed.

- COVID-19 TESTING: Mexico does not have any testing/vaccination requirements for U.S. visitors. The same goes for those visiting the U.S. Please be sure to have proof of vaccination for all entry and exit through the country.

What is the dress code for the wedding?

Tulum is a casual, jungle, beach town. Feel comfortable wearing whatever you want during your time in Mexico. For the wedding, we suggest the following but give you the freedom to express yourself as you'd like:

Guys - linen or dress pants are preferred, but tie and jacket are optional

Ladies - flowy dresses or jumpsuits. The reception will not be held on the beach, so any shoes will work

Can I bring a plus one?

Your invitation will be addressed to the people in your party. If your invitation says your date's name then yes, you may bring them. If not, then your request will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Are kids invited?

We understand that many of our friends and family have kids, and we are happy for them to come if you would like and have asked us beforehand. The resort itself is family friendly. For an accurate headcount, please do let us know if you intend to bring your kids.

What will the weather be like?

Typical weather in November is highs in the 70's - 80's. Weather is mostly sunny, however we recommend coming prepared with a rain coat or umbrella in the event of inclement weather.

Where should we stay?

Please review our Travel & Accommodations section for recommendations.

How do we get around Tulum?

Please review our Travel & Accommodations section for recommendations.

When should we get to Mexico?

It's up to you! This may be our wedding but we want it to be your vacation as well. Wedding festivities start on Friday and last through Sunday evening. We will be in Tulum from Thursday - Tuesday.

Will there be a wedding registry?

We understand that a destination wedding can add up for guests (hotels, flights, etc.), so wedding gifts are not expected. However, we have created a cash-based registry if you would like to still give a gift to help us plan for our future!

Can I drink the tap water?

Tap water in Tulum should only be used for bathing. Plan to use bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth. Most hotels provide water bottles free of charge for guests.

Gifts are not expected but are always appreciated!
