Like most couples, our meeting was by chance. After spotting each other at a community service event in 2010, we introduced ourselves and exchanged contact information. We chatted a little bit but nothing more.
In 2012, I mistakenly text Jamillah thinking it was my barber. Of course she replied, “Same number, who this?” We ended up texting and talking everyday for the next two weeks. Even though we had shared most things prior to, our first date was full of free flowing conversation and neither of us could wait to go on the next one.
Not only did we begin in 2012, but so did Jamillah’s law school career. Over the next three years we spent our time falling in love with each other and the city.
In 2015, Jamillah moved back to Dallas, and without the distance between us, we were able to really grow. On November 10, 2017, we got engaged. On that evening, we officially decided that there is no one else we would rather do life with.
