Explore Downtown Los Angeles

Look, you're already here! Might as well see some sights, hear some sounds and smell some... uhm... smells!

There are plenty of awesome things to do in Downtown Los Angeles, but here's some stuff you can check out:

Take a quick stroll around Pershing Square!

Grab something to read at the famous Last Bookstore!

Play some games/Escape Rooms at Two Bit Circus!

Find the secret garden at the Walt Disney Concert Hall!

Drink some Jakeweisers at Angel City Brewery!

Feed your Blade Runner nerd-ness with a visit to the Bradbury Building!

Take the Angel's Flight for an old-fashioned LA treat!

Eat some delicious food at Grand Central Market!

Or grab a quick drink at Clifton's (ANNELI'S FAVORITE PLACE TO EXPLORE!)

Wonderous Gardens

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens

You want the full Jake & Anneli experience? Then hop in a car and head out to The Huntington Botanical Gardens!

It was here that Anneli realized that Jake was destined to be her life-long love. And it was here that Jake proposed to her!

The gardens are an incredibly magical place and a perfect way to spend the afternoon. The Japanese Gardens and the Desert Gardens are particular favorites of Jake & Anneli.

Definitely a top recommendation to visit!

Descanso Gardens

Another very cool botanical garden in Los Angeles. Known for their incredible lighting installations over the holidays, but also wonderful for any time of the year.

LOCAL HIKES

The only walking people actually do in Los Angeles!

Be warned, you absolutely need to bring water and sunblock. There is a lot of sun out here and not a lot of shade. Don't give us that look. We're looking out for you here.

Griffith Park, Observatory & Hollywood Sign

Griffith Park is fantastic with something for everyone! You've got hiking trails in the park! You've got the Observatory (great for all ages)! You've got a driving range if golf is your thing!

JUST SO YOU KNOW... THERE IS NO EASY WAY TO GO TO THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN! Look, it's really nice to look at, but they shut down access a while back, so best to just leave it where it is.

Hike Elysian Park

Elysian Park is great for an easy and relatively fast hike. It clocks in at about 1 hour, and has a wide dirt path with gentle switchbacks on the way up. Definitely a go-to for a quick nature fix!

Dawn Mine and Sunset Trail Loop

A little outside the city and into the National Forest, this is one of Los Angeles's shadier hikes! On the longer side at about 3-4 hours, you will get both narrow and wide paths, get to walk creek-side, explore some abandoned mining equipment, and an incredible view with an abundance wildflowers at the top!

Go To Universal Studios!

It's an Amusement Park, complete with rides and overpriced snacks!

But, you can get there from Downtown using the Los Angeles Metro Redline. Could be fun, but, like all amusement parks, can eat up A LOT OF TIME

There's also a Giant Minion there. Fun!

THINGS NOT TO DO!!!!!!

The Hollywood Walk Of Fame/Hollywood And Highland

It's just a sidewalk. And it's not even a nice sidewalk. Do not waste your time here.

Star Tours/TMZ Tours

You'll get driven around in a bus to look at nothing. If you like wasting time and money, then this is the ticket for you.

Rob Carnegie Hall

Not only is it illegal, but it's in the completely wrong city.

Slightly Further Explorations!

First time in SoCal and want to see what else it has to offer? We got some great suggestions for ya!

Joshua Tree National Park

It's called "Josh Tree" to its friends. And it's one of our favorites. It's simply magical here. Have a desert adventure and see some famous trees, catch a show at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown, see some cool sculptures at the Noah Purifoy Desert Art Museum, or grab some goods at the Cactus Mart or Wine & Rock Shop and enjoy your time in the desert!

Santa Barbara

March is still the peak of whale watching season at this seaside spot! Expect lots of great seafood, local wine, and sand and surf adventures. Take a stroll down Stearn's Wharf, grab a beer and some fresh oysters and stare down a pelican. Or rent a kayak or take a boat tour and see if you can spot any Grey whales or dolphins!

Please do not try to bring any Grey whales home with you. Airport security frowns on that.

Solvang

Cutest little Danish town smack in the middle of the Santa-Ynez valley (which is prime wine country if ya didn't know)! Charming spot to stroll and peruse the different wine tasting rooms. On your strolls through town be sure to try some famous aebleskivers and danish butter cookies!

There's a joke about "Great Danes" here but we're not going to make it.

Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

Find a spot to stay in Three Rivers CA, and then head into this amazing National Park to do some hiking and see some Great Sequoias. General Sherman is a must-see, but there are many other less populated trails as well at different levels of difficulty. You should check to see the snow requirements for the day, but if you need chains, you can rent them easily at Totem Market & Gifts right outside the park.

Also, they've got trees named after different branches of the US government. Impress your friends by making a joke that they "do nothing just like the real thing." Everyone will laugh and ask if you would consider writing for Jay Leno.
