Hemali and Josh met at Joshua Tree Bar and Grill in Davis Square (now Elm Street Tavern where Josh is proud mug club member #3!). While the specific details on how they met depend on who you ask, there were definitely nachos involved and googily eyes exchanged from across the bar.
Josh will forever associate this fateful meeting with the birthday celebration of a decades-long friend and groomsman, Jon, where they and others were looking for a place for some proper birthday boy libations.
Traipsing through Davis Square, and unbeknownst to him at the time, Josh witnessed his wife enter his life. She was walking ahead with a friend along a similar pursuit, and she steered the pair into Joshua Tree. Inexplicably intuiting action, Josh sherpa'd his group to follow.
Knowing the bar well, Josh posted up at high-tops by the door near the bar. He could see her from there, across the way, and he was perfectly situated to break the ice when the moment presented itself.
Now, there's some disagreement over the specifics of how things happened next, but Hemali and Josh agree there were several exchanged glances with nachos on one side and birthday jägerbombs on the other.
Eventually, and as the space filled, Josh found Hemali behind him at the bar and the ice was broken. The pair met, spoke, and laughed, and despite a quick lap around the bar later 'just to make sure', Hemali found Josh again and they exchanged numbers. The rest is history!
