Getting there and around
Our wedding venue, Kalmoesfontein Farm, is found deep in the Swartland between Malmesbury and Wellington, about an hour's drive from Cape Town (see 'Driving' below).
Kalmoesfontein is a working wine farm and home of AA Badenhorst Wines, makers of the award winning Secateurs Chenin Blanc.
The farm is proudly owned by the (in their words) "baie dynamic and good looking cousins", Hein and Adi Badenhorst and produces natural wines in the traditional manner from a restored cellar that was last used to make wine in the 1930′s.
*Depending on the number of guests staying in the nearby villages of Malmesbury and/or Riebeeck Kasteel we may arrange shuttles so please stay tuned and update us once you have booked your accommodation!
The easiest (and in fact only) way of reaching Kalmoesfontein Farm is by road. The farm is a 1-hour drive north of Cape Town along the N7.
The location and directions can be found by following this link to Google Maps.
For those of you joining from further afield and who will be arriving in Cape Town without your own vehicle, see the 'Flights' and 'Car Rental' section below.
The nearest airport is Cape Town International, also located about an hour from Kalmoesfontein Farm.
As it's a major international airport, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a direct flight to Cape Town from your preferred international departure point. For our UK based guests, British Airways offers a direct flight from London most days a week.
If you cannot find a direct international flight to Cape Town you will definitely find a convenient (and often more affordable) option with a short layover in Johannesburg.
This may be particularly attractive for those wanting to take advantage of being in South Africa to go on "safari", as Johannesburg is more conveniently located close to a number of game reserves including the Kruger National Park.
For any of you travelling to South Africa for your first time and thinking of staying for some time before or after the wedding, please feel free to get in touch with us and we'll gladly offer you some local suggestions on where to go and what to do.
P.S. The fastest way of letting a South African know you've never been to the bush is by referring to it as "going on safari". The next fastest is by telling someone you're going on safari in Cape Town...
The most convenient place to rent a car is Cape Town International Airport. Car rental prices in South Africa are not extortionate and reputable companies include the usual; Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz. There are a number of less known car rental companies which can also offer good deals, but we recommend you clarify all details on insurance and fuel policy before rental.
If you've never driven in South Africa you'll be happy to know that the main roads are (generally) well maintained, large and safe. As long as you keep to the speed limit and maintain some basic street-smarts you should have a smooth experience.
Right, we've finally gotten to the elephant in the room...Covid-19.
Trying to predict the travel restrictions (or hopefully lack thereof) for March-April 2022 is entirely out of our reach at this point. We will keep an eye on that and update you as we get more certainty.
*Please note that for everyone's safety and wellbeing we would kindly ask any of our guests who are unable to be vaccinated to have a PCR test 2 days prior to attending any festivities.

Consider carbon offsetting your flight to help fight climate change.
You can use this website to calculate your flight's carbon footprint, and choose a project that will offset some of your travel emissions (and support communities around the world at the same time).
There are a variety of carbon-offsetting projects to choose from, from cooking stoves for women in Kenya to reforestation projects.
Also, you have the option to pay more, or less, of the the suggested amount when you pay.
Please contact Katrine at katrine.claassens@gmail.com with any questions.
