Before travelling to South Africa, please ensure that your passport is valid for at least a further 6 months after your intended departure date. This is just to be safe.

First time to South Africa

Should you be travelling to South Africa for the first time and are not quite sure where to fly in to, the arrival airport would be Cape Town International Airport.

If you are not able to able to book flights from your departure country to Cape Town, then you would need to arrive at O R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

From Johannesburg to Cape Town, there are a number of domestic airlines that you can book - probably try and avoid SAA at the moment. A few suggestions are below.

Weather

March is the sweet spot in Cape Town's year. It is not too hot, not too windy, not too wet. Expect mild days, pretty sunsets, and long days to enjoy the best the Cape Winelands has to offer. The average daily temperatures are between 16 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius.

As weather and climates change, it is harder to predict what the weather may actually be, so on the safe side, pack a jacket, jersey, long trousers and a pair of jeans.

Transport around the Cape

The distance between Cape Town International Airport and Nooitgedacht is approximately 40kms East.

Public transport in South Africa is not great and close to non-existent so your options are either to rent a car (if you are comfortable on the left hand side of the road), take an Uber, or pre-book a shuttle service.

For car rental, there are a number of agencies at Cape Town International Airport.

If you would like to use Uber, it is one of the easiest and safest ways to get around in Cape Town, particularly at nighttime. There are always lots of cars available and you don’t have to worry about negotiating rates or carrying cash with you, as it’s all done through your credit card and every journey is tracked. If you’re not already familiar with the transport giant that is Uber, just download the app on your smartphone, register your credit card details, and you can start using it straight away.

Below are a few options should you wish to pre-book a shuttle for either yourself or a group.
