Traveling Jaipur

About Jaipur

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and is popularly known as the “Pink City” for its blushed building facades. Jaipur is steeped in history and culture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here the past comes alive in magnificent forts and palaces where the maharajas (rulers) once lived as well as bustling bazaars, chaotic streets, and delicious cuisine.

Other Travel Ideas

The “Golden Triangle” of New Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur combines some of India’s most jaw-dropping sites. After flying into New Delhi, you can make your way by car, train, or bus to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, the world’s most extravagant monument to love. From there, you can make your way to Jaipur. Or, head to Agra after the wedding!

If you are able to extend your stay in Rajasthan (which we highly recommend!), consider visiting Udaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur, and/or Jaisalmer.

Getting to Jaipur

International travelers should fly into New Delhi. We recommend booking your airfare as soon as possible for the best rates.

There are many ways to get to Jaipur from Delhi, including flight, taxi, train, or bus.

If you want to take a taxi from Delhi (airport or hotel) to Jaipur, please let Emily or Vish know. We will arrange this for you, and you can pay the driver in cash. If you plan to fly to Jaipur, we can arrange a taxi for you from the Jaipur airport to Diggi Palace Hotel.

Taxi: 3.5 - 5 hours, $60-$90 (convenient)
Flight: 1 hour, $25-$60 (convenient)
Train: 5-7 hours, $7-$40 (more adventurous). We recommend AC train and booking in advance.
Bus: 7-8 hours, $10-$15 (more adventurous)

Getting Around Jaipur

Taxis can be booked for an outing or for a whole day through hotel concierge service when you’re in India.

The local equivalent of Uber/Lyft is Ola. You can book rides through Ola and pay the driver in cash. You cannot pay with a US credit card on the app. Download the app on your smartphone.

Uber is a good option in Delhi, but not in smaller cities like Jaipur. Drivers often don't accept or drop rides.

For the adventurous, autorickshaws can be hailed on the street. We suggest agreeing on the price with the driver before you begin the ride.

Visa Information

All passport holders are required to have a valid visa in order to enter India. You can apply for your e-Tourist Visa here:

indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

You can apply for your 30-day tourist visa up to 30 days in advance or at a minimum 4 days in advance of your flight to India. You do not need to visit a consulate in person to get your visa. You will not be able to board your flight in the US without a visa. NOTE: There are A LOT of scam websites offering to fast track your visa. Don’t fall for this! Make sure you go through the government of India website here:

indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

Please make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival.

Packing Tips

Other than all your regular essentials, consider bringing:

1. Travel plug adaptor: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079RKJK8G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
2. Walking shoes
3. Sunscreen
4. Earplugs
5. For foreigners, it is not advisable to drink the water in India. There is bottled water widely available, but if you would like to cut down on plastic waste, consider a reusable water bottle with a built-in filter or a water filter system that can be used with a regular reusable water bottle: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OR111G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1. These can be handy for future travel and camping trips!

6. If you are sensitive to pollution, pack some face masks.

Weather

It is said that if you want to enjoy Jaipur in its full glory, the best time to plan your trip is during the fall and winter season. Luckily, we've done that for you! Expect the weather to be warm during the day and cool at night. The temperature ranges between a maximum of 84 degrees to a minimum of 56 degrees in November.

Health Concerns

Most travelers require vaccinations when traveling to India. Visit your doctor at least 6 to 8 weeks before departure to make sure you are up to date with any vaccinations. Recommended vaccinations for travel to India are Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid. And Covid-19 of course. More details here: wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/india.

Finally, do yourself a favor and pack some oral rehydration solution such as Dioralyte or your own personal favorite anti-diarrhea drug for the accidental Delhi belly!
