Other Accommodations

Want to stay somewhere else? Downtown DC has many convenient options. Although the W and Grand Hyatt are where we have room blocks, other alternatives include: Embassy Suites (900 10th St NW, Washington, DC 20001), the Renaissance Washington (999 9th St NW, Washington, DC 20001), or the Marriott Marquis (901 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001).

Flights

Airports

Washington, DC is conveniently accessible by three airports: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), and Dulles International Airport (IAD).

While we strongly recommend DCA for ease, BWI is accessible by the MARC train (1 hour) and IAD is accessible by Uber/Lyft (1 hour).

Transportation

The Metro

The Metro is DC's convenient public train and bus system. We love using public transportation to explore the District - pick up a SmarTrip card at any metro station. SmarTrip cards can be reloaded and used on Metro trains and busses. To help plan your Metro excursion, find WMATA's directions tool here and a subway map below. The Ceremony and Reception will be held near the Metro Center stop.

Uber & Lyft

While DC is extremely walkable, Uber and Lyft services are very easy to access.

Places to Eat and Drink

Lost & Found (+ All-Purpose Pizza)

Fun bar decorated with vinyl records offering craft beers and whiskeys in a laid back atmosphere. Hungry? Grab a pizza to-go from All Purpose next door and bring it into the bar!

0.7 mile walk

Duke's Grocery

Comfy, London-inspired hangout serving what is indisputably the best burger in the District. The picnic table seating out front makes it a great stop on a nice day.

1.0 mile walk

Ivy & Coney

Cash-only Chicago sports bar in D.C.'s Shaw neighborhood. A total dive but the home of some fond memories from the Cubs 2016 run, including the Game 7 win. Swing by for some cheap beer, free peanuts, and rub a bar stool for good luck.

1.0 mile walk

Glen's Garden Market

On the north side of the Dupont Circle neighborhood, Glen's is a market with a deli style counter where you can order sandwiches, pizzas, and the like. Don't forget to order a $4 beer from the tap! Ample outdoor-seating makes it another great stop on a nice day.

1.5 mile walk

Al Volo Osteria

Blocks from where both Ellen and Conor once lived in Adams Morgan, Al Volo is a no-frills neighborhood Italian spot with great food and great people. An ideal spot to sit, have a large plate of pasta, and leave full and happy.

2.1 mile walk

Neighborhoods to Explore

Dupont Circle

The heart of Northwest D.C., Dupont Circle has long been one of the District's great neighborhoods. Right off the circle, stop by Bethesda Bagel's to start your morning with D.C.'s best bagel. Pop into Kramerbooks, a cozy and relaxing book store. Check out the Phillips Collection if our reception location has you itching to see some art. Additionally, stroll up Massachusetts Ave. for a world geography lesson as you pass through D.C.'s famed Embassy Row. In the other direction, 17th Street has a string of fun restaurants and bars, including Duke's Grocery mentioned above. Around on Sunday? Swing by Dupont Circle and see the city's largest farmer's market in full gear from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm.

Adams Morgan (AdMo)

Lively and artistic, Adams Morgan has an energy that will make you quickly forget the stodgy suits in the halls of power just a couple of miles away. With no shortage of watering holes, Adams Morgan is famed for its nightlife and Jumbo Slice pizza, but that doesn't detract from it being a great neighborhood to check out during the day. Several coffee shops and fun restaurants line 18th Street, the main strip in AdMo. The Line Hotel recently opened with a fun lobby for lunch or a drink (Ellen strongly recommends the appropriately-named "I'm Hip and Very Bitter" gin and grapefruit cocktail). On the opposite end of 18th, grab a popsicle at Pleasant Pops to cool down from all of your D.C. exploring.

Logan Circle

A short walk from Dupont, Logan Circle is home to one of the trendiest areas in D.C. along 14th Street, and classic D.C. architecture in the homes along its side streets. The circle itself offers a great park to stroll through with benches to relax and appreciate the day. 14th Street offers a well-spring of great and popular restaurants including Le Diplomate, Estadio, and Barcelona among others.

Things to Do

Visit the National Portrait Gallery

Check out our favorite Smithsonian Museum, the National Portrait Gallery. Admission is free and exhibits are always rotating. Don't miss the presidential portraits!

0.5 mile walk

Say Hi to Abe

Our favorite part of the National Mall is the stretch from the WWII Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial. We love going to the back-side of the Lincoln Memorial to check out the view of DC.

1.7 mile walk

Grab a Post-Run Beer at DC's Beer Gardens

DC is a great city for a drink outside - check out one of the city's many beer gardens. Our favorites include: Garden District (1.1 miles), Dacha Beer Garden (1.1 miles), and Biergarten Haus (2.3 miles).
